George Friesen

May 2, 1941 – April 20, 2021

With saddened hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our Dad, Grandpa and Great grandpa, George Friesen on April 20, 2021.  He is survived by his children, Maynard (Liz) Friesen, and their children, Tania (Brendan) Halbgewachs (Parker, Hudson); Levi Friesen (Ryenne, Bennett); Yvonne (Tim) Dueck and their children, Angelina (Josh) Beckman (Sophia, Seth, Addy); Stephanie (Josh) Cantwell (Greta, Jase); Gracealee (Randy) Chorney and their children, Saralee (Andrew) Brooks, Kayla (Derek) Koenig (Brielle, Karis, Nathan), Aimee (Matthew) Smearer (Greyson), Joella (Jordan) Lemke (Zion, Gwenyth, Calvin); Janella (Darcy) Bulicz and their children, Clayton (Kat) Bulicz, Samantha Bulicz.  He is also survived by two sisters and three brothers.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Stella (Teichroeb); grandchild, Tyrell Dueck; great grandchild, Jessa Koenig; parents Abram & Susan Friesen; three siblings.

Growing up in the hamlet of Gruenthal, he enjoyed many years working on the family farm. But, one thing he always stated was that he never had any appreciation for horses. There was one mare they used for going to school, but, it would randomly have a mind of its own and turn around part way there and head back home. This left them having to walk the rest of the way to school! There was always a lot of work that never stopped. But somewhere in the midst of all the work, there was always time for social activities. It was on one of these times that Mom & Dad met on the skating rink in Pembroke. They were married on June 17th,1962, and shared a loving relationship that carried them through many trials and joys of life.

Dad worked at several different places before settling into farming back on the family farm. He was always quick to lend a hand to whoever needed it, and always put others before himself. When mechanical work was needed, he was the first to roll up his sleeves and get to work. He spent the majority of his working life, after farming, as heavy duty mechanic for Geransky Bros. For the last 13 years, caretaking at Savannah Estates where he resided gave him purpose after Mom passed away. Having the fellowship of the other tenants meant so much to him. As family, we were very grateful for this.

There was one thing that was always first and foremost in Dads life and that was his walk with the Lord.  He loved nothing more than the opportunity to go to church and wouldn’t miss a service. For several years he was the song leader, was greatly respected and will be fondly remembered by the congregation.

Although his passing was unexpected, we find comfort in knowing he is reunited with Mom – his greatest longing.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those that were a part of Dads life after Moms passing. Whether it was a phone call, meal, going for coffee, gifts or letters, these acts of kindness did not go unnoticed by any of us. Thank you all and God Bless You!
