Maynard Gossen

Maynard Gossen

September 9, 1938 – April 12, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Maynard Gossen wish to announce his passing on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the age of 85 years.  Dad was born on September 9, 1938, in Saskatoon to Henry and Elsie Gossen.  Dad was the oldest of 6 children growing up on the farm outside of Langham, SK.   He loved driving and working on machinery, which is likely why he co-owned Jasper Highway Services with his younger brother Dennis for years.  Dad had many occupations over the years such as: milk truck driver, bus driver, mechanic, lumber yard worker and finally foreman for the Town of Langham.  Over the years, dad did a lot of volunteering, which included: The Langham volunteer fire department, usher on Sunday mornings at the Zoar Mennonite Church in Langham, as well as usher at many funerals throughout the years.

Dad’s life changed for the better in 1973 when he met and fell in love with Ann Enns. Mom and dad married 6 months after meeting on March 9, 1974.  This March, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Dad always had a smile on his face, or his little smirk, and a silly joke to tell anyone he crossed paths with.  Dad loved to tease and joke around all the time, especially with his grandchildren.  Once dad retired, his greatest loves were his 7 grandchildren.  He was excited and looking forward to meeting his great-grandson, who will be joining our family in June 2024.

On April 9, 2023, dad suffered his first stroke.  He had a few smaller strokes over the year, with the final one being on April 10, 2024.  We know that dad was lonely after mom passed away in August of 2020.  He made the best of every situation that was thrown his way.  Dad always said, “God will only give me what He knows I can handle.” Dad always faced every situation with love and grace.

Dad was predeceased by his sister Marjorie; his dad Henry on April 25, 1992; his mom Elsie on June 15, 2003; the love of his life Ann on August 9, 2020; and many numerous aunts and uncles.  Left to mourn and also celebrate dad’s life are his 3 children; Robert (Michelle) of Kelowna, BC; Cindy Gossen of Langham, SK, along with her children Darren Mierau, Brittany (Riley) Tallis, Cody Mierau, Justin Mierau and Logan Mierau, all of Langham, SK; Christie Gossen (Richard Ward), along with their children Michael and Nicholas Klassen of Wakaw, SK, Carissa, Jessica and Adalida Ward all of Birch Hills, SK; his siblings Dennis (Phyllis) Gossen, Doreen (Ray) Mierau, Carol (Gerald) Wurtz, Gerald (Linda) Gossen and Midge Gossen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family of Maynard wish to thank the staff at the Langham Care Home for the compassion shown to our dad.  In that same token, any donations in memory of Maynard may be made to the Langham Care Home, Box 287, Langham, SK, S0K 2L0.

There will be a come and go viewing at Dalmeny Funeral Home, 139 3rd Street, Dalmeny, SK, on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 1:00-3:00 p.m.  Burial will take place at the Langham Cemetery at 3:45 p.m. after the viewing.  Everyone is welcome.

Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

Chris, Cindy, Bob and Maynard’s siblings
We are saddened to hear of Maynard’s passing. We have fond memories of Maynard and Ann as our neighbours on 3rd. Street. Maynard was a conscientious foreman of Langham, second to none! We were also fortunate to have him help us during a couple of harvests. May you find comfort in the memories spent with him. Rest in Peace MG.
