Heather Fitzsimmons

March 18, 1982 – March 25, 2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our daughter Heather Fitzsimmons.  She was a special lady who accomplished whatever people told her she couldn’t do. The fact that she was autistic did not stop her.  She loved animals, dancing, and her sister Kim and brother-in-law Jim. She always told the truth and always wanted to be busy, and her parents Dave & Marlene had a hard time keeping up with her.

The Celebration of her life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, corner of Spadina Crescent West and 17th Street West, on Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to share in the celebration of Heather’s life. We will all miss her but know that God has chosen her to be in his garden of love.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Saskatoon Cancer Centre, 20 Campus Dr, Saskatoon, SK S7N 4H4 or St. Paul’s Palliative Care, 1702 20th St W, Saskatoon, SK S7M 0Z9.

Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

Dave and Marlene, I was so saddened to hear of Heather’s passing. She was such a unique young woman and she touch so many in our highland family. She will be missed. My deepest condolences.

Thank you so much, Corissa. Very kind of you. There is now a huge hole in our lives and things will never be the same but carry on we must. Heather told us not to go home and cry but we had our moments…..

Kim & Jim are here, as is Kim’s childhood friend Leanne fro Edmonton so we have lots of support from them and also from family and friends like you, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If you are able to attend her Celebration of Life we’d be honoured. Take care and hug your kids. Life can be so fragile…………….

      Dave, Marlene, Kim, & Jim.

Kim, Dave and Marlene, my thoughts have been and will be with you this weekend. I am so grateful for my time spent growing up with Heather in Highland dance. It is a special community which Heather very much added to. She probably didn’t know how much she taught me but what I learned from my time with her in the Wilson School shows up regularly in how I am raising my own kids and how I have run my own dance studio. I’m sorry I won’t be able to make it home to Saskatoon for the service but I look forward to hearing about the beautiful gestures that have been planned. I have made a donation to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre in her memory.

Thank you, Kendra. It’s hard to believe she’s gone, and so quickly, but she’s not hurting any more. We are overwhelmed by the support and number of well-wishers who have stepped forward. I am sorry you can’t be here but this is a part of life and life goes on. Bless you for being Heather’s friend.
Hug your kids whenever you can. Life is so fragile and one never knows………..

Dave, Marlene, Kim & Jim Zaun from Florida.

Marlene, I was so sad to see this obit in the paper this morning. My heart goes out to you, as a Mom. I remember you talking about the highland dancing at work. No parent should lose a child no matter what the age. Having been through this myself I know what you are going through, and will be praying that you find the Lord’s support at this trying time..

We are deeply saddened by your loss. Heather was a very special gal and we have lots of fond memories of her. We always looked for her at Saran when we visited there. Dave, Marlene and Kim please know we are sending our sympathies.

Dave, Marlene and Family. So sad and sorry to read of your loss. We only met Heather once (1989) but I do remember how proud you both were of both your girls. Take care of yourselves and may time help heal your hearts…Karen

Thank you, Karen. It’s so hard to believe she’s gone. Our house and our lives feel like empty shells and we suspect it will take quite some time to adjust. So young………….our hearts are broken and nothing will ever be the same.
Hope you and Jack are both well and life is good. I’ll let Marlene know you “called” as she doesn’t check her e-mail very often.
    Stay safe, stay well.

    Dave
