Gerald Franson

December 27, 1942 – February 20, 2024

Gerald Frans Franson (Gerry) of Saskatoon, SK, spent his last day surrounded by family on February 20th, 2024. His magic tricks of disappearing coins and removable thumbs are already missed. This playfulness never failed to bring joy to strangers and pride to his kids and grandkids for being the coolest dad and grampa ever! Gerry’s ingenuity and wit connected him with people of all walks of life in fun and meaningful ways. His real-world magic of mechanical and engineering solutions for confounding situations modeled a “there’s always a way” approach to life. His unique view of the world opened minds and brought delight to life. Over 56 years of marriage, Gerry and Cheryl’s alchemy resulted in redefining the joys of what it is to have a family. Simple delights and common celebrations were acts of love and creativity. Gerry is survived by his wife Cheryl, his 5 children, 6 granddaughters, and 1 grandson. Chelsey (John) Kingsley, Quinn & Wren & Forrest. Heidi (Alec) Waldner, Elijah; Jaysea Franson(Clint Sherdahl), Callie; Tyler Franson; Regan (Michael) Shepherd, Victoria & Addison. There will be a celebration of life later in the year. Until then, enjoy all the Gerry stories we know will pop up at the sad, sad news of his passing. Laugh, remember the twinkle in his eye and know that his legacy lives on with pride and love in his surviving family and friends. Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

    Heidi and Family,
I was sorry and saddened to read the news that your Dad had passed. I didn’t get to know him really well, but he impressed me as a fun-loving guy with knowledge of a wide range of interests. I enjoyed the few times that I did have the opportunity to visit. I, along with my family, send our deepest sympathy and condolences to you and your family, your Mom and your siblings. My thoughts are with you.

Cheryl, Jaysea, Tyler, Heidi, Regan, and Chelsey: Please receive my family’s condolences on the passing of your beloved Gerry. His talents as a tinker, roofer, inventor, business man, occasional artist and an amateur magician will be long remembered as will his mischievous soul. Personally, he was one of my last connections, through memories, with the time and people of the Haultain school area in Saskatoon. for a year or two I was in a class in elementary school with his younger sister Selma. See you all at the lake, sitting around Gerry’s constantly burning fire.
