Hartley Penner

Hartley Gordon Penner

April 22, 1943 – November 5, 2023

Hartley Penner of Saskatoon, SK was born April 22, 1943 to Jake and Linda Penner, Dalmeny, SK. He grew up in Dalmeny and attended school there.  He met Carol Anderson of Langham, SK, who became his best friend.  They were married May 28, 1966.  He had various jobs involving picking up bulk milk in the Saskatoon area, driving service trucks over much of Saskatchewan, and the USA, and repairing farm machinery.  He enjoyed being sent to Australia to work at a large implement show in 1985.

Hartley passed into the presence of His Lord on November 5, 2023 in Saskatoon, SK.

Hartley was predeceased by his 4-year-old daughter Lori Penner in 1972, as well as by his parents, Jake (1978) and Linda (1992) Penner, his parents-in-law, Jessie (1986) and Selmer (1991) Anderson, as well as his grandparents, aunts, uncles, including his nephew, Marlene and Roy’s son, Cameron Nordstrom, and some cousins.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 57 years, Carol; two daughters Wendy (Lorne) Albertson, and Shari (Joel) Hoehn; and  five grandchildren Christian, Rachel and Caleb Albertson, and Colby and Kayla Hoehn.

Also surviving him are two sisters Marlene (Roy) Nordstrom and their children Dr. Pam Nordstrom, Rev. Clayton (Lori) Nordstrom, and their 3 sons (Austin, Cameron and Graeme); Karla (Eleazar) Andino; and Bev Penner. Also very special to Hartley are his 2 god-children originally from Frontier, SK, Jared Nelson and his sister Jobi (Nelson) Regier.

Hartley enjoyed making things, whether from iron, wood or whatever was available. Together with Carol, he enjoyed totally renovating their abandoned house that was moved into Frontier. In his later years, he tried his hand at wood carving.  Along with all this, he found entertainment in embroidery (counted cross-stitch), along with making bead work jewellery.

While living in the house on Ave W, North, in Saskatoon, he learned to plant flowers (learning the difference between weeds and flowers) and loved watching them grow. As well he enjoyed boating, fishing and camping.  They spent a great deal of time as a couple in these activities. He certainly will be missed as you didn’t usually see one of them without the other.

A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 323 4th Ave South, Saskatoon, SK.  To watch the live stream please click on the link below.
