Corinne Brown
December 15, 1933 – October 16, 2023
Our Mom, Corinne Gloria, was born to John and Mathilda (Buhler) Schmidt in December 1933. Their family lived in Dalmeny, moved to Ontario, then Hepburn and finally settled in Langham. She was the oldest of three children. Ardon was born in 1934; Charmaine joined their family when Mom was 21.
Mom shared many stories of how her mom worked diligently and with creativity in those depression years to make their family life special and full of sweet memories. The example had been set.
Mom’s ambition to take business training and then earn tuition to go to Briercrest Bible School was fuelled by a thirst for learning. She worked for McGavins Bread (Bowman Brothers) as a bookkeeper. Accounting and numbers just clicked for her, and she kept the finances for her family in meticulous order – still balancing her check book to the penny until the end of her life.
In 1961 she married the Langham milkman who delivered cream to her folks’ door, George Everton Brown. They made their home at Wish’n’ Hope Farm, just outside of Langham. To their family, they added Cameron, Caralee, Charis and Autumn.
Mom loved this time of her life. She gardened to feed a growing family and to share with others. She created a paradise oasis of beauty on the Brown family farmyard, tilled ground and planted the many trees around the homestead and tenderly attended to a new batch of chicks each spring. She stood side by side with Dad in farming. They faced the challenges together and she was a solid helpmate in every sense of the word. Mom gave freely to others, serving faithfully and often with personal sacrifice. When Dad became ill, she was his primary caregiver.
She was gifted in hospitality and was generous with her encouragement and expressions of thankfulness. Everything Mom touched was done with a sense of excellence. She gave to their community, teaching in Sunday School and kids’ clubs, and generously supporting those working on the mission field. Her heart was for those who didn’t yet know her Lord and Saviour Jesus, and she prayed so faithfully for her family and friends. Mom was all about the practical hands-on work of the Lord, whether it was hosting and feeding strangers or having the neighbourhood kids come for cookies on her deck.
Dad (George) passed away in 1994, and Mom had free time for the first time in her life. To her delight, Mom found travelling and sharing life with friends very meaningful as a widow.
In 1998, she married Maynard Waldner. They moved to Saskatoon where they together built a new home. This began a chapter of more travel, extended family, and warm friendships cultivated through their church and in their community. This was such a blessing to see Mom enjoy the love and companionship in her second marriage.
The last years saw Mom and Maynard moved to Hyde Park View where they found new friends and had an opportunity to renew relationships in that context. Maynard predeceased Mom in 2022. This past year has been challenging but also precious. She spent the last days of her life back “home” in Dalmeny at Spruce Villa. She so looked forward and appreciated the friendships renewed there.
As a family, we want to express our thanks to Mom’s care providers: Drs. Martens, Johnson and Fournier, the nurses in St. Paul’s palliative unit, and the many kind friends and family who have been supporting her and us especially these last few weeks.
Mom was predeceased by her husbands George E. Brown, E. Maynard Waldner, her parents John and Mathilda Schmidt and her brother Ardon. Also, family from the Schmidt, Buhler, Brown and Waldner clans. She watched so many of her closest friends pass and yearned for Jesus to come take her too. Her prayer was answered on Monday, October 16th, 2023.
She is survived by her children: Cameron (Sandra), Caralee (David), Charis (Tony) and Autumn (Blaine), and her sister Charmaine; stepchildren, Howard (Laurel), David (Lanette), Sheila, Lori (Dan); twenty grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She also leaves extended family and many dear friends.

Mom is safe with Jesus.
A viewing service will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Dalmeny Funeral Home, 139 3rd Street, Dalmeny, SK.

It was our joy and delight to get to know Corinne. Her faith in Jesus Christ was undeniable — her words of encouragement so memorable. What a comfort to know she is now “Home” with our awesome loving God.
Len and I loved your mom. She was interested in us and our family since we were newlyweds. It was always a joy to meet her. Her smile and kind words were such an encouragement to us. May you feel the prayers of your family and friends

My condolences to all of you at the loss of Corrine. She was always a warm, inviting, and interested person from my first memories of her shortly after her marriage to George, to the last. We are blessed to have had her presence in our lives, whether near or far. May you all treasure her memory and love always.
We have fond memories of your Mom and Grandma, her sweet smile and caring heart coming to mind when we think of her. Our sympathy to all of you.
