Doreen Schultz

October 22, 1935 – September 16, 2023

Doreen Betty Marie was born on Oct 22, 1935 to Owen & Dorothy Johnson at Crooked River, Sask.  She attended school in Crooked River.  At the age of 12 Mom accepted Christ into her heart when she attended a Bible camp nearby.  Mom lived in Crooked River until the age of 14, and after the death of her mother, the family moved to Dalmeny where she finished her schooling.

Mom worked hard all her life.  After the death of her mother, she took care of her siblings – Maurice, Deanna, Yvette, and Neil.  At harvest, Mom helped on the farm by taking meals and sometimes driving truck.   She did this right up to recent years.   In 1969, mom started to work part-time at Dalmeny Home for the Aged which later became Spruce Manor Care Home and she worked there until she retired in 2001.

As a teenager, mom met the love of her life Gilbert Schultz. Mom was baptized August 1953 the same day as dad. They were married at a young age and had three children – Sheryl, Duane and Janelle.

A notation that mom had written in her Bible read “The Lord has done so much for me that I like to do little things for others” and this she did.  For many years mom taught Sunday school and Wed. night children’s prayer meeting which later became Pioneer clubs. Mom was also on the executive committee for Ember Daughters and president for several terms. Mom loved to be involved with missions and the fellowship with other women.

Mom had a servant heart and loved to entertain.  She loved to play games like Rook and was very competitive.

Mom loved to go fishing and travelling. They went to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, Egypt, Greece, Israel and Costa Rica.  They have also travelled across Canada and did bus tours to eastern Canada and the US with close friends.

Mom enjoyed quilting, sewing, and cross stitch. She loved to read. In the winter, she enjoyed  snowmobiling with Dad and in summer, she loved to spending time at the lake with family.  Gardening and doing yard work are things she also loved to do.

Mom loved to spend time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She babysat them many times, went to their sporting events and music recitals.

In Aug. 2022, Mom was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer. She received treatment and spent many weeks off and on at RUH. Our thanks and appreciation to Jacqueline who gave compassionate care to Mom at home. The last few weeks of Mom’s life were spent at Diamond House in Warman where she received excellent care.  Mom passed on to her heavenly home on September 16, 2023 at the age of 87.

Mom was predeceased by her brothers Leonard, Wesley, Malcolm, Maurice and Neil and daughter-in-law Jean and grandson Del.

Mom is survived by her loving husband Gilbert and children:

Daughter – Sheryl (Dale) Epp, grandchildren Jason, Brendan (Stacey), great grandchildren- Jenaya, Shalayna and Braden.
