Jeanette Dolores Ens (nee Schmidt)
August 4, 1945 – June 15, 2023
Jeanie was born in the hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the farm near Hepburn and attended grade 1 to grade 12 in Hepburn. She attended Bethany Bible Institute for 1 year and then nurses training at Saskatoon City Hospital for 3 years. She was awarded the General Proficiency Award her graduating year. Jean married Ed Ens immediately after graduation.
Jeanette faithfully followed her gallivanting teacher husband and nursed in Saskatoon; Rosetown; Sydney, Australia; Weyburn; Rosthern; and ended her career of 50 years in Saskatoon once more. She had served as General Duty nurse, Geriatric nurse, Intensive Care nurse, Operating Room nurse, and ended up as a Renal Unit nurse (dialysis).
Jean and Ed raised 4 chosen children, Jason, Corey, Natasha, and Tanya, and helped raise 2 grandchildren, Daylin and William. The other grandchildren, Aymie, Sophia, Jocelyn, Carley, River and great grandchildren Audrey and Zane were all precious to Jean and Ed. Their lives revolved around child rearing for 40 years. Traveling with family via camper or motorhome, and airlines, was always a consuming passion.
Commitment to Jesus Christ guided and blessed life with strength, joy, and hope.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Toby and Dorothy Schmidt. She is survived by Ed and all family members. Also by siblings, Pat and Norman, Carol and Rolly, Glenn and Lorraine, Terry and Carolyn, and Robin, plus many nieces and nephews and in-laws.
The passion of Jean’s life was her family. She passed up countless job promotions and leadership opportunities to spend time and energy with family. May all who knew and loved Jean be willing to deny themselves and use their 24 hours each day to serve others as Jean did.
A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Grove Community Church, 502 Webster Street, Saskatoon, SK.

What a beautiful woman who loved God endearingly and dedicated herself to others; she was not perfect, but she took the power and blessings bestowed on her to help others. She had a very clinical mind in her thinking and was focused and determined; even in the end, life had to fight her to have her spirit. I pray she made it in and ushered in the kingdom of God. No pain, no worry, pure love, and rejoicing.
May Jesus receive her into His kingdom his faithful servant.
Sincere condolences to Ed and family. My memory of Jean is a big smile with lots of enthusiasm and a heart for Jesus. Precious in His sight are the death of His saints.
Sincere sympathy on your loss. Jeanette was a wonderful nurse, which is how I knew her. We heard many stories about family members! She was so committed to all of you! She was a very positive person and strong in so many ways.
Ed, and family: I have wonderful memories of getting to know Jean from your time in Rosthern. I ran into Jean several times during my work at SPH in Saskatoon. I always enjoyed my short visits with Jean. My thoughts are with all of you at this time as you remember Jean.
As a former SCH School of Nursing classmate, I am greatly saddened by Jeanie’s passing. She endured the pain of her battle with cancer & now we must feel the pain of her loss. Heartfelt condolences to Ed & her whole family whom she loved dearly.
