Lydia Driediger

March 21, 1936 – April 14, 2022

Lydia Driediger was born on March 21, 1936 at home on the farm near Elbow. She passed away on April 14, 2022 at Saskatoon City Hospital. She is survived by her sisters, Anne Driediger, Mary Froese and Frieda Driediger and by her nephews and nieces, John Froese (Ellen), Judy Nagy (Ken), Karen Lilly, Ken Froese (Irene), and Kathryn van Dam, as well as great nephews and nieces and great great nephews and nieces. Lydia was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Aganetha Driediger and siblings Jake, John, Agnes, Tena, Henry, Helen, two brothers-in-law John Froese and Ben Froese, sister-in-law, Marlene Driediger and by Carol Froese, Bill Lilly and Leo van Dam.

Lydia was baptized on her confession of faith on June 7, 1954 by Reverend George Warkentin, at the Dundurn Mennonite Church. Her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ sustained her all of her life. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints”. Psalm 116:15

Lydia and her sister Helen farmed together with their brother, Henry, until his passing in 2010. In 2012 Lydia and Helen moved into Bethany Court. After Helen died in 2016, Lydia remained in Bethany Court where she made many good friends. Lydia enjoyed planting flowers and picking apples from her own tree, which she gave away freely. The flowers at Bethany were a small sample compared to the fields of flowers, fruit trees, and vegetables that she grew on the farm. Lydia loved animals and regretted being unable to bring her dog with her when she moved.

Lydia fell and after a successful hip surgery, her health declined. She spent her last three months at Saskatoon City Hospital until her passing early on April 14, 2022.

A Funeral will take place on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 1:00pm at Bethany Manor Fellowship Centre, 110 La Ronge Road, Saskatoon.

Interment to follow at Hanley Mennonite Cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.
