Lawrence Edward Thorarinson
April 21, 1941 – December 22, 2021
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Larry Thorarinson. He passed peacefully at home, in Dalmeny, SK with his loving wife and dog by his side.
Larry was born April 21, 1941 in Wadena, SK. He was raised by his parents Henry and Stella as one of five children. The family moved to the Leslie, SK area for a short period of time and then moved west to Salmon Arm, BC where Larry grew up and went to school. In 1962 Larry joined the RCMP and went to Ottawa for training. He did two tours performing on the musical ride. His postings included; Ottawa, Winnipeg, Brandon, Portage, Weyburn, Moosomin, Saskatoon and Loon Lake. Larry met the love of his life Doris Marie in Weyburn, SK in 1964, where they married and started a family. Together they had two children Brenda and Trent. After the RCMP Larry worked for 16 years for the provincial government as a Liquor and Gaming Inspector. After full retirement they moved to their home at Whiteswan Lake, SK where they were at their happiest. It was truly his favourite place to be.
Larry was an extremely happy person with a love for life and having fun, he made everyone around him smile, laugh and be a better person. Even when times were tough, he was positive. Larry loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and being outdoors, he could often be found on the lake with a fishing rod in hand. He was happiest when he was out in the bush or on the lake with family and friends, and if a fish was caught the fun factor went up. Larry was extremely proud to be a part of the RCMP and enjoyed visiting and catching up with the Veterans for coffee. His greatest pride and legacy were his family and it showed by the smile on his face when his kids, grandkids and great grandkids were around. As his health declined, they moved to Dalmeny, SK to be closer to family.
Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris Marie (Johnson), his two children, Brenda (Greg) Edel, Trent (Kathy) Thorarinson; his grandchildren Mitchell (Victoria) Thorarinson, Kelsey (Brodie) Thoreson, Austin Thorarinson, Trystan Edel and Evyn Edel; his great-grandchildren Braxton and Harper Thoreson; his sisters Marlene (J.O.) Trethewy and Sharon (Roger) Lavoie; his brother-in-law Dave Wagner; and his brother-in-law Dick (Elline) Johnson. Larry was predeceased by his parents Henry and Stella Thorarinson; his brother Henry (Bud) Thorarinson (Loretta); his sister Betty Lou Wagner; his great-granddaughter Brooke; his father and mother-in-law George and Evelyn Johnson; and his brother-in-law Tom Johnson.
At Larry’s request there will be no formal service and the family asks that everyone raise a toast to our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and good friend and remember the good times we had with him as he will be missed. In lieu of flowers we ask a donation to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in his honour. Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.
