Vanden Wiebe

Vanden Glen Wiebe

January 23, 1971 – December 19, 2021

Vanden passed away peacefully in hospital after a short stay due to pneumonia, on December 19, 2021, at the age of 50 years. He was predeceased by his loving sister, Vonda. He leaves to mourn his siblings: LaVerne (Bonnie) Wiebe and their family and Darlene (Ken) Klassen and their family, as well as his parents, Peter and Olga Wiebe, and many friends.

Vanden was born in Rosthern and grew up on a dairy farm near Hague. He started school in kindergarten at Hague School but after 1.5 years he attended the John Dolan School in Saskatoon. He returned to Hague for the rest of his education when the school added additional classrooms for special needs learning. He enjoyed the school bus rides with his siblings and later, on his own. He proudly graduated with the graduating class of 1992.

That same summer he moved to Shepherd’s Villa group home in Hepburn, Saskatchewan and attended Menno Industries for employment. He enjoyed this as well as visiting home on occasion. After a visit home, he was always ready to go back, his only regret being that he couldn’t take his sister and parents with him.

In 1999, his sister joined him and they moved to Saskatoon along with two of their special needs friends, renting a house on LaLoch Road and attending Cosmo Industries. They had 24-hour support by Saskatchewan Alternative Initiative (S.A.I.) caregivers, many of whom became wonderful friends. This enabled him to socialize and live an independent life that he enjoyed.

Social Services has been a big support in his independent living. In March 2021 he and his roommate moved to a new house on 535 Kinlock Court, Saskatoon, built to suit their growing needs with more space for wheelchairs, etc.—one of which became his mode of transportation in the last ten years.

The home also attended The Neighbourhood Church, lately on livestream, which he enjoyed very much. He was a praying man. When he was upset, he would appreciate them praying with him. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at 1:00 pm at The Neighbourhood Church, 233 Pinehouse Drive, Saskatoon SK.

Memorial donations can be made to Camp Kadesh, Box 56, Christopher Lake, SK, S0J 0N0. Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

    Pete, Olga and family,
So sorry to hear of Vanden’s passing. When he was going to school in Hague and worked with in the classroom. Your family also got to know me and you had me babysit for Vanden and Vonda.
On one occasion you even went away for a weekend and you asked if I would babysit both the kids for the weekend at your home.
I remember thinking this was crazy, a 17 year old babysitting for two sweet kids.
I was honored that you trusted me to take of your children and remember the precious interactions and smiles.
May you feel God’s love surround you as you mourn this loss.
    In Christ,
    Dorothy

Saddened to hear of Vanden’s passing. He was such a delight to be around. The unconditional love and smile he had for everyone. Pete and Olga, just know Vanden profoundly affected my life and my daughter Michele’s.

I took the time to watch the live stream and even though I didn’t know him I do remember how much both Olga and Pete gave of themselves during the early years. My heart goes out to you. Sending a big hug and pray the Comforter will hold you as you grieve.
    Love
    Eunice
