Laurena Bergen

January 6, 1933 – May 20, 2021

Laurena Ethel Harms was born January 6, 1933 to Anna and Arnold Harms of Waldheim, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Glenbush where she attended Avery school and the Glenbush M.B. Church. At the age of 9 she accepted Jesus as her Savior, and was baptized by her father on August 3, 1947.

She married David Bergen on July 18, 1954 and established their first home in Saskatoon. Sensing the call of God upon their lives to ministry, they moved to Winnipeg where David received his Theology degree. She was an integral part of David’s ministry in the Arelee M.B. Church, the Brotherfield M.B. Church and at Bethany Bible Institute in Saskatchewan, and later in Brandon and at Winkler Bible Institute in Manitoba. During these years she was a busy homemaker, mother and friend to many.

They left Winkler to move back to Saskatchewan to be closer to family. Laurena used her time to garden and to be with her children and grandchildren. She could often be found sewing projects, camping, and enjoying family celebrations such as their 65th Wedding Anniversary. One year later, her beloved David passed away suddenly in July, 2020. She was very lonely, her health deteriorated, and after a period of illness, Laurena passed away May 20, 2021.

She leaves behind her children: Maryann (Roland) Thiessen; Kenneth (Loretta) Bergen, Elizabeth (Randy) Kerney; Clarence (Margaret) Bergen; Grandchildren: Ryan Thiessen, Leanne (Calvin) Dixon; Samantha (Darrick) Fehr; Adam Kerney, Anthony (Nicole) Kerney; Cameron (Stephanie) Kerney; Great-Grandchildren: Koby, Nicholas, Riley, Allysia, Delainey, Sawyer and Sabella.

My deepest sympathy and prayers are offered to the entire Bergen family . Mrs. Bergen was so kind and caring to me whenever I returned home to Canada each summer to see Maggie. Heaven is her home and it comforts me to know that she is reunited with Mr. Bergen. Praying for Peace.
