Barbara Maygard

Barbara Flore Maygard

March 5, 1945 – January 31, 2021

Barbara Maygard passed away peacefully January 31, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 5, 1945 in Windsor, Ontario to Norman and Laurentia Caza.

She was the eldest of 16 children, therefore learned to be very responsible. At the age of three her family moved to Southern Saskatchewan, first living in a few small towns then settling in Vanguard, SK. It was there that she met and married Harvey Deobald at the tender age of 17. Together they raised 4 children and were married for 38 years.

Barbara loved to care for people. She cared for her siblings at home from a young age, her children and grandchildren and also seniors for many years once her children had grown. She also cared for several loved ones in their final days, including her husband Harvey and second husband Lorne Maygard.

Her primary jobs outside the home were at Pioneer Village (seniors home) in Regina, and Lutheran Sunset Home in Saskatoon. She attended Kelsey SIAST and achieved a certificate as a Special Care Aide. She excelled in her class. Barbara retired early due to health issues, but continued to work hard taking care of her family and always kept an impeccable home.

Barbara’s passion was her family. She felt her sole purpose in life was to care for and nurture them. Barbara was given the opportunity to become the mother of 4 more children when she married Lorne. She loved his children as her own and accepted them unconditionally.

Barbara’s greatest interest outside of her family was her garden. She loved flowers of all kinds and always grew the most beautiful, healthy gardens. From Spring through Fall she spent hours in her yard. She also loved birds.
She loved music and influenced her children and grandchildren to love it too.

Barbara trusted Jesus as her Lord and Saviour and shared His faithfulness with those she loved. She always had a listening ear, compassionate heart and words of wisdom for anyone at any time. She was a modest woman with quiet strength. She was selfless, kind, generous, gentle, quick to forgive and accepting of others. Barbara was a Proverbs 31 woman in every way.

Barbara was predeceased by her father, Norman Caza; her husband, Harvey Deobald; her second husband, Lorne Maygard; her son Darren Deobald; her brother Pat Caza, and sister Hellen Wall.

Barbara is survived by her mother, Laurentia Caza; children, daughter-in-law Julie Deobald, LaVonne Anthony, Drew (Sheri) Deobald, Tammy (Darryl) McKenzie, Lora Maygard, Keith (Tracy) Maygard and Mikaul (Marianne) Maygard; 11 sisters and 2 brothers; 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; several brother and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. Barbara was loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed. She is now with her Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8

A Memorial Service will take place at a later announced date.
Arrangements in care of Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.
