Vida Ginther

April 6, 1920 – April 30 ,2019

It has pleased our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to peacefully take unto Himself, our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Vida Ginther, on Tuesday, April 30/2019. Mom passed away at the age of 99 years, at Stensrud Lodge  in Saskatoon where she had been a resident for the past 6 years.

Vida was born, the second of six children, on April 6/1920, to Glenn and Lena Mitchell of Mendham, Saskatchewan, She attended Mendham Elementary School and completed her Grade 9 & 10 by correspondence. On Nov. 10, 1938, Vida married Chris Ginther. They moved to the farm, seven miles west of Mendham, to begin a mixed farming operation that would occupy their lives for the next 42 years.  In 1980, Mom & Dad retired to Burstall, Sk. and then in 1985 to Saskatoon.  Following several years in their own home they moved to Bethany Manor, where Mom continued to reside following Dad’s passing in 2006. Mom & Dad loved the farm and rural life, even though it came with many challenges, especially in the early years. For them, every season of the year was a new opportunity. Neighbors, community and church activities filled the non- working hours of their days. According to Mom, the arrival of two sons, Jim & Bob, brought much joy, pleasure and excitement to their home. That would be multiplied many times over through the addition of daughters in law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. All of us know how much we were loved by Mom & Dad. Her faith was the centerpiece of Mom’s life. At the age of 14 she made a commitment to follow Jesus. That decision lead her to diligent study of the Bible,  regularly listening to several Christian radio broadcasts, teaching Sunday School, and leading ladies Bible studies and prayer times. The values derived from those interests impacted all aspects of Mom’s life; family, friends and community in a most positive way.

Vida is survived by her son, Jim, and Marilyn Ginther, Swift Current, and their children, LaRae & Mike Schmidt, Mitchell & Ariana, Omaha, Nebraska, Leighton & Brenda Ginther, Cassidy & Mackenzie, Calgary; her son Bob and Kathie Ginther, Saskatoon, their children, Melanie & Scott Willems, Nial, Paige & Hudson, Saskatoon, Andrew & Linda Ginther, Trystan, Travis & Sophie, Fort Saskatchewan, Todd & Lesya Ginther, Dominic & Spencer, Saskatoon, Craig & Heather Ginther, Leo, Hadley & Oscar, Borden; two sisters in law, Lydia Andrie, Moose Jaw, Annie Ginther Janke, Calgary, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Vida was predeceased by her husband Chris in 2006, her parents, Glenn, 1965  and Lena, 1979, her brother Jim, 2006, sisters Beulah Ehnisz, 2011,  Loretta Ehnisz, 1984, Alice Pearson, 2015  and Grace Haugan, 2014. Mom will be greatly missed by her family and friends but we look forward to a wonderful reunion in heaven when “faith will become sight” once again. Thank you Stensrud staff, for the compassion and care provided to our Mom while a resident in your facility. It is deeply appreciated. The Memorial Service for Vida Ginther will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, May 6, 2019 at Erindale Alliance Church, 310 Perehudoff Crescent, Saskatoon, SK. Anyone wishing to make a donation in memory of Mom may do so by cheque to Gideons International, PO Box 3619, Guelph, Ont. Canada. N1H 7A2 or online at www.gideons.ca.
