Nathan Joel Soubolsky

April 18,1995 – January 27, 2019

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men;

yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)

Nathan Joel Soubolsky was born April 18th, 1995 and passed away on January 27, 2019 unexpectedly and unintentionally. Nate is remembered by his two sisters, Amy and Teagan, and his parents, Dave and Rene. He was a beloved grandson, nephew, cousin, and close friend to many. Nathan was always a brilliant and thoughtful young man. His quick wit and sense of humor was admired by the many people he knew. He cared deeply for people and could always see past the surface.

Nate’s creative imagination was evident in his childhood where he spent his days putting on skits, building things, and running around as a Jedi master. He attended Saskatoon Christian School from kindergarten to grade 12, except for grade 5 where he was enrolled in a class at Greystone for academically talented students. In Nathan’s youth he developed a passion for baseball, hockey, snowmobiling and golf. He was a stellar pitcher and outfielder on the Cardinals baseball team, and went with his AAA team in 2008 to Nationals. He also developed a great love for music. He was a talented drummer and guitar player, genius sound technician (self-taught), and he composed and recorded his own songs.

In his later high school years, Nathan’s battle with mental illness became evident in his everyday life. He was diagnosed with depression and bipolar disorder. Near the end of grade 12, Nathan could hardly read. As time went on his illness became more debilitating and he fought hard to maintain employment, make healthy choices, and find reasons for living.

On January 6, 2019 Nathan was impacted while attending C3 Church in Saskatoon. He felt the weight of the message and was inspired to turn his life around. Nathan wrote his testimony out and began to study his Bible again. His evangelistic spirit that was buried under depression for so long shone through for the first time in years as he encouraged his friends to come to church with him. As he slowly began to find hope amongst his illness, his life tragically ended on the morning of January 27.

Nathan’s journey was a difficult one, but we cling to the hope and truth offered by Jesus Christ and the knowledge that he is now in Heaven and finally free from his suffering.

A Service in Nathan’s honour will be held Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 2:30 pm at Circle Drive Alliance Church, 3035 Preston Ave S, Saskatoon SK. In Nathan’s memory, donations may be made to Canadian Mental Health Association, 1301 Avenue P North, Saskatoon, SK  S7L 2W9. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Katrina Funk at DALMENY FUNERAL HOME 306-254-2022. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.dalmenyfuneralhome.ca.
