Kenneth Rae Wensley

July 22, 1921 – August 27, 2019

Kenneth Rae Wensley was born on July 22, 1921 to Edwin and Sarah (Beebe) Wensley on the family farm near Borden, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of 14 children.

Ken attended school in Borden through 10th grade, at which time he quit to help his ailing father on the family farm.  It is because of his ailing father that he was not able to go to war in 1942 when he received his draft notice. He was needed on the farm.

He contracted polio in 1947 and spent time in St. Paul’s hospital but made a remarkable recovery.  He met and married Martha Wolf from Palmer, Saskatchewan in 1956.  Byron was born in 1957, quickly followed by Brenda in 1958 and then Brad in 1965.

Ken and Martha lived at the farm, lived a short time in Saskatoon and then moved back to the farm throughout the early years. In 1975 the family moved to North Battleford where they lived for 38 years until moving to Saskatoon in 2011. They moved to Bethany Manor in 2019.

Ken was in the Saskatoon Convalescent Home when he took his last breath peacefully in the early morning of August 27, 2019.

Ken is survived by Martha, his loving wife of 63 years, his children:

Byron (Lorna) Wensley and their children:

Cory (Liz);

Derek;

Brenda (Norm) Sparrow and their children:

Jerilyn (Mike) Gabruck and their children, Peyton, Beau and Georgia;

Jamie;

Greg (Whitney);

Brad (Carrie) and their children:

Sarah;

Victoria;

Jonathan

Ken was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Sarah (Bebee) Wensley, his thirteen siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Bethany Manor Fellowship Centre on Tuesday, September 3rd at 3:00 pm, 110 La Ronge Road, Saskatoon, SK.

Ken will be remembered as someone who loved deeply. He loved and cherished his wife, he loved and cared for his children and grandchildren, he loved his family: brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, cousins. He loved his neighbours and all he came in contact with. He loved his church and he loved his God.  He will be missed.
