Gary Goosen
March 3, 1953 – December 4, 2025
Gary Gossen was born on March 3, 1953, to Henry and Violet Gossen. He grew up in Hepburn, Saskatchewan, where he attended public school and graduated from high school.
After a period in the workforce, Gary made a defining decision to remain at home and help his parents. In their later years, he faithfully served as caregiver until his father Henry’s passing on January 3, 2003, and later to his mother, Violet, whom he cared for until her passing on May 31, 2020. Gary’s quiet devotion and sense of responsibility marked much of his adult life.
One of Gary’s passions was photography. He was a longtime member of the Saskatoon Photography Club and displayed his work at the Saskatoon Exhibition and other club competitions. He enjoyed nature photography, and also created occasional portraits—images that will continue to hold special meaning for those who knew and loved him.
Gary had a deep appreciation for jazz music and found great enjoyment in its creativity and rhythm. He also enjoyed the prairie-rooted humor of the television comedy Corner Gas, which reflected his own quiet sense of humor.
Gary came to faith in Jesus early in life and was a longtime member of the Hepburn MB Church. Later, he attended Forest Grove MB Church, where he became part of a home group that remained an important source of connection and encouragement. In his later years, Gary was no longer able to attend church regularly, but he stayed closely connected with his home group, who visited him regularly. Gary maintained a special friendship with John Pearson, who was always ready to help when needed, and with whom he shared many thoughtful conversations.
In September of last year, Gary was admitted to St. Paul’s Hospital with pneumonia. He remained in hospital for several months until his passing. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his steadfast care for others, his creative eye, his love of music and humor, and his quiet faith.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Violet Gossen; his brother-in-law, Reg Litz; and his sister-in-law, Joyce Gossen. He is survived by his brother Rick (Marilyn) Gossen, his sister Lois Litz and his nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Dalmeny Funeral Home on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.
