Robert Troupe

October 26, 1972 – June 16, 2021

On Wednesday, June 16, 2021, Robert William Troupe passed away in a canoe accident on Amisk Lake, SK.

Rob was kind and generous and always had a big smile on his face. He cherished time with friends and family, especially with his niece and nephews.

One of Rob’s favourite past times was to spend time outdoors, and he loved fishing. He was planning to spend the summer in his trailer at Whiteswan Lake, where he spent time throughout his life. His goal was to eat jackfish all summer.

Rob lived a full life in his short 48 years. He was born in Saskatoon, and spent his school years in Regina, Prince Albert, and Birch Hills. He attended the University of Saskatchewan, convocating with a Bachelor of Education. At his passing, he worked as an educator and coordinator with Prairie Spirit School Division. In a short time, he impacted colleagues, students and families through his passion, dedication and humour. Rob was an animated storyteller and loved to share his adventures with all who would listen. He loved to teach his students important lessons, like how to juggle or how to solve a rubrics cube and liked to entertain them with funny stories. Rob loved to spin a tale. While teaching in Taiwan, he taught his students how to speak English and even taught them to sing Happy Birthday to his dad over the telephone. While overseas, he learned to speak Mandarin, which he continued to practice whenever he could.

Anyone who knew Rob, knew he lived a life full of adventure, and made life long friends wherever he went.  He loved to travel, and after convocating, spent a year in Scotland with his cousin Richard, learning about his Scottish heritage, touring, visiting the local pubs and perfecting his Address to the Haggis. He used his time teaching in Taiwan and Saudi Arabia with his former wife Danya Gabruch, to visit as many places as he could. He actively counted the countries he visited and was always planning his next adventure. After his return to Canada, he met Heather Pospisil, with whom he shared many new experiences. Next up, was a trip with his friend Derek to Laos, to visit his oldest friend, Jason Balone.

Rob is survived by his parents William and Georgina Troupe, sisters Terri (Adam) Logue and Cheryl (Jason) Strouts, niece Carina Logue, nephews Alexander and Adrian Logue, nephew Keeler Strouts and his beloved cat, Princess, a street cat he rescued and brought home with him from Saudi Arabia.  He is predeceased by his grandparents William and Pearl Troupe, and George and Verna Bannerman.

A private service for family will be held, followed by interment at Elmhurst cemetery at a later date. Rob had a family connection to the Brightsand Lake area, and it would be his wish to be buried there.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an animal rescue of your choice. Thank you to the Creighton and Flin Flon emergency services teams, and to T&D Amisk Camp for their efforts.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

Not sure why I thought of Rob tonight, but he was just one of those people that were so special, larger than life and charismatic. Just wanted to let you all know, he’s still remembered by random ex-schoolmates.
