John Dale Harrison

John Dale Harrison

December 19, 1939 – May 28, 2021

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that the family of John Dale Harrison announces his sudden passing at the age of 81. He passed away surrounded by love on May 28, 2021, in Saskatoon, with much of his family as close to him as they could be during this time. Dale was born in Ottawa, Ontario on December 19, 1939 – 7 minutes after his twin, Patricia Gale Henderson (nee: Harrison), who survives him. He was predeceased by his parents, Milward and Pearl Harrison. Dale is survived by his sister, Gale, and brother Milward Darwin (Darry) Harrison of Edmonton.

Dale lived a full life and had a variety of interesting careers. He owned a hair salon in Langley, BC and trained to be a florist in Whiterock, BC. He completed his Orderly training at NAIT and worked at Mesocordia Hospital in Edmonton, AB and returned to Saskatoon where he was an Orderly at RUH. He also was a florist at Cory Park Flowers and part-owner of House of Eve with his close friend, Father Len Cyr. He then went on to work shipping produce for Codville Company Ltd from which he retired in the early 90’s. After his retirement he then spent time at Cory Park Greenhouse with his sister and her family for many years.

He formed many close friendships wherever he lived, such as in Blackstrap, SK where he built his own home. He talked of many fond memories, and referred to this as the best time of his life. As he aged, Dale was determined to find joyful moments and live his life to the fullest – despite any hardships or health complications.  He was involved in the Cardiac program at the field house, walking and enjoying the company of many friends.  This exceptionally rare man was best known for his truly helpful and giving nature. Dale was always ready to lend a helping hand, no matter the task – running an errand on someone’s behalf, – with no expectation of anything in return.

More than all these other things (even Coronation Street) Dale treasured time spent with his family. His siblings and their children were so important to him. Also affectionately referred to as “Unkie”, he had a special bond with his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He treated and loved them as if they were his own and many certainly saw him as a father or grandfather figure.

Those that knew Dale will truly feel the impact of his loss in their lives. We will all miss everything about him.  His generous spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of his friends and family members.  Until we meet again.

As per Dale’s request there will be no funeral service. Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

Some of our fondest memories are conversing at Costco or in the parking lot of A shopping centre. Gale, so very sorry to learn of Dale’s passing. We are now in Calgary and I just looked at the Star Phoenix this morning. Your mom and dad were such good friends to my mom and dad and it was always a highlight to have a visit with you or Dale at the greenhouse. I am married to a twin and understand how devastating it is to lose half of one’s self. Take care. Wendy
