Allan Miller

April 2, 1939 – November 7, 2019

Allan Miller of Bethany place, formerly of Dalmeny, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on November 7, 2019 after a 4 1/2 month battle with cancer with his family by his side.

He is lovingly survived by his wife Nettie (nee Peters); children Wendy (Ron), Brenda (Diana), Bradley (Christina); grandchildren Nick, Reid, Phil, Lindsay and Jasmine. Also survived by his family: Stan & Marg Miller, Maynard Waldner, and Darlene Storos.

He is also survived by Nettie’s family: Jake Martens, Ron Haarsma, Henry Miller, Marian Shuparski, John & Anna Peters, and Bill & Carol Peters.

Many nieces and nephews, and cousins also survive him.

He was predeceased by his parents Andrew P and Kate Miller and his siblings Delmer (Miriam), Jessie (Hugh), Gladys (Cy), Josephine, Ralph and Glen.

He is predeceased by Nettie’s family his father and mother and law, Frank B. and Nettie Peters and in-laws Helen (Ben), Mary, Tina, Anne, Henry, Betty and Susan, as well as his grandson Griffin.

Allan was raised on his family farm called Risk & Hope near Langham Saskatchewan, where he attended school until he moved to Saskatoon at the age of 18. He met the love of his life, Nettie, in 1960 at Pioneera Exhibition. They were married on November 4th, 1961 at the Emmanuel Church. They just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

Allan worked for Johnnies Plumbing and Heating as a tinsmith for 31 years. During that time Nettie and Allan moved to Dalmeny where they raised their three children : Wendy and the twins, Brenda and Bradley.

Allan was very involved in the Dalmeny community. He was a volunteer firefighter, an elected town councillor, and spent many hours volunteering as the community arena president. He also spent time at Spruce Manor assisting the residents with crafts. After he retired from his career as a tinsmith, he took the custodial position at Dalmeny Elementary School, where he enjoyed interacting with and teasing the children. He was known as the candy man as he always carried treats to give to the kids.

Allan thoroughly enjoyed all travelling- Canada, USA, Caribbean cruises and also tours as far away as China.   He loved camping, woodworking, golfing, and playing cards with family and friends. Allan had a passion for collecting things, from coins and crafts he made himself to all kinds of knickknacks. This hobby of his was passed on to his son and granddaughter.

Also important to him was coffee time and socializing with friends and family.

Allan belonged to three separate church families, which were important to him. These included Emmanuel, West Portal, and Bethany Manor. He had a hand in the renovations of the Emmanuel Church, which recently celebrated 102 years. His family was instrumental in the birth of the church and Allan will be interred there.

Allan’s children and grandchildren meant everything to him. He took great pride in their accomplishments and spent many hours supporting them at their sports and activities. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all.

The family would like to thank RUH 5300 and St Paul’s Palliative unit for their professional, respectful and loving care provided by all the Nurses, Therapists and Surgeons (Dr. Woo and Dr. Getslaf).  Many of them went the extra mile to get to know him and to ensure he was getting the best of care. Allan considered many of them his friends.
