Evelyn C. Friesen
Evelyn Friesen passed away on December 10, 2018 at the Worthington Cottages in Abbottsford, B.C. She was 87 years old. She was born in Dalmeny, SK to parents Peter and Tina Thiessen. She was predeceased by four siblings, older brother Arly, older brother Marvin, older sister Grace (Warkentin) and younger brother Wilfred. Evelyn is survived by her only child, Terrie Denise Emilson of Stuart, Florida, USA, her granddaughter, Larissa Anne Toker of Lakeland, FL. (children Tyce and Iyla), and her grandson, Leland Robert Foley of Evansville, IN. (children Colin and Aidan).
Evelyn lived most of her adult life in Saskatoon, SK, marrying Herbert Friesen. She worked for Canada Post for many years – a job which she loved – sorting and delivering mail even in the harshest winter weather. She was a member of the Christian Business Woman’s Association and was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church. She volunteered both at church and many outreach organizations. In later years while living in Abbottsford, B.C. she was very active with the Teen Challenge Organization. She loved to help others and this group was very dear to her heart.
She spent many years in Indiana living with Terrie. She enjoyed watching Terrie compete at horse shows and also interacting with the horses and the daily routine of caring for them. She loved her grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to visit or babysit the great-grandchildren also.
Sadly in the past three years she suffered from Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease. A private memorial service was conducted on June 21, 2019 by Pastor Dennis Friesen in Dalmeny, SK. Her ashes were interred by her father’s grave in the Dalmeny Community Church Cemetery. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
