It is with profound sadness & deep regret that we announce the sudden passing of Frieda Rempel on July 21, 2026, at the age of 72.

Frieda was born to Henry & Elizabeth Rempel and was raised in Warman alongside her 8 siblings. During her adult life, she lived in many small towns all over Saskatchewan, but as a single mother, she lived the majority of her child-rearing years in the Melville, Ituna, and Warman area. She worked in roles such as Healthcare Aide and Line Cook, but she was never happier or found greater satisfaction then in the everyday work of helping maintain the family farm with the father of her middle son. Acts of service and preparing meals for others was something she took great pride in. However, her love of animals was a passion that was uniquely her own. Her siblings can recount her seemingly innate and easy connections to the family dogs they had growing up, while her children witnessed that same natural bond with horses and livestock on the farms where they stayed.

As the chapters of Frieda’s life unfolded, from girlhood to the responsibilities of adulthood, the qualities that remained constant were her underdog advocacy, her dreamer’s spirit, and her rare gift for making others feel like lifelong friends. She had an extraordinary ability to strike up conversations with complete strangers, leaving them both laughing together within moments of meeting. She had talents in her youth, like softball, that she couldn’t take into adult life, but her siblings lovingly remember watching her play and being so proud to cheer for their sister; when she was up to bat she never had to run because she sent every ball sailing over the wall. She was fearless, determined, and strong.

While later adult life was quieter, she found entertainment in any kind of puzzle or card game. Her daughter fondly remembers Frieda teaching her how to play games like Rumi when she was small, and it was just the two of them. From the opening chapters of her story through to its final pages, Frieda’s lifelong love of reading – especially fiction and romance novels – kept her dreamer’s spirit alive. Her imagination carried her to the mountains and to a peaceful farm life surrounded by horses, family, and her beloved service dog, Pickles, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge before her.

Frieda is lovingly remembered by her children, Russell (Carmen), Devin (Mandy), and Erin (Kevin); her two grandchildren; her siblings Edna, Rick (Tina), Terry (Patricia), Colleen, and Kelly (Vivian); her sister-in-law Linda; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and countless friends throughout Saskatchewan. She is predeceased by her parents; 3 brothers, Peter, Irvin, Gary; brother-in-law Jake.

Rest peacefully Mom, and know while your adventures may not have spanned oceans like those in the books you loved, your story will continue to be told and your life mattered.

The family has chosen a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Frieda’s memory are encouraged to embrace the simple joys she cherished. Ride a horse. Pet every puppy you meet. Read a good book. Or perhaps most importantly, spend time with a senior in your community, whether on an ordinary Wednesday or during the holidays when companionship can mean the most. Small acts of kindness create lasting connections, and there is no better way to celebrate Frieda’s life than by sharing a little kindness with someone else.
