It is with heavy hearts, love, and remembrance that we announce the passing of Mark Friesen, who passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the age of 54 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, after a courageous battle with dementia and ALS.

Mark was born on July 29, 1971, in Regina, Saskatchewan. He grew up in Saskatoon and attended Holy Cross High School.

Mark worked as a correctional officer for 25 years and owned and operated his own tree company for 12 years. He was known for his strong work ethic, steady leadership, and commitment to helping others. He built a reputation for integrity, dependability, strength, loyalty, and dedication to his community.

Mark enjoyed spending any free time he had in the woods, whether camping or going on canoe trips, and he spent much of his childhood at the family cabin. He loved all sports and was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Above all else, Mark especially loved listening to his wife sing, spending time with his “cubs,” and being surrounded by his family.

Mark is survived by his wife, Jannecke; his daughter, Savannah (Joe); his sons, Brett (Zoe) and Scott (Chantel); his mothers, Alvina Friesen and Norma Ness; his father, Gary Ness; his father-in-law, Helge Steinar Nielsen; his brother, Patrick Friesen (Laurie); his brother-in-law, Bernt Helge Nielsen (Bente Hermansen); his sisters, Rebecca and Amanda Ness (Jay); his nephews, Sean Friesen, Karsen Ness, Lukas Milan Nielsen and Ulrik Konstantin Nielsen (godson); his nieces, Paris Friesen, Emma Ness, and Amalie Elise Nielsen; and his beloved fur babies, Banjo and Dobro.
