Kenneth Wayne McCallen

July 25, 1943 – April 25, 2026

Kenneth Wayne McCallen passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital on Saturday, April 25, 2026, with his family by his side. He is pre-deceased by his parents, sister Ilean (Ed), brother Andy (Erna), sister Esther (Ed), Brother Keith (Evelyn). Ken was the youngest child of James and Dorothy McCallen, born July 25, 1943, in Dodsland, Sask and moved to Saskatoon around the age of 2 where he grew up in City Park, attended Wilson School and City Park High School. After high school he worked a few odd jobs before enrolling in the pre-employment Refrigeration Technician program at SIAST Kelsey Campus. Ken worked for Trane Company in Saskatoon for 32 years then for the last part of his career worked for the Saskatoon Board of Education in the maintenance department. His retirement job!

Ken married Rhoda, the one true love of his life on June 23,1973 they were married for 53 happy years. He is survived by his two sons, Sean (Alana) and Aran and six grandchildren Raija (Nate), Kaylee (Braden), Brendan, Casey (Adriah), Keilah and Brynn.

Ken was very gifted with his hands, the man could fix anything, this is the reason why Rhoda never got to buy new appliances, he would just keep fixing the ones they had. (Sorry Alana Sean does the same thing)

His favourite place on earth was at Wadin Bay on Lac La Ronge, whether camping in the trailer and eventually in the cabin, that’s where Ken could truly relax. His knowledge of that lake was incredible, how he could navigate those treacherous waters with barely a glance at a map would always amaze us. And now, as we return to that place those memories of him will always be there with us, we will just make sure to have a map.

In 2009 at the age of 66 Ken was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Thankfully mom and him managed to stay in the house right up till the morning he went to the hospital, a week before his passing. When he went to meet his saviour, Jesus.

  1. I am so very sorry for your loss. I got to know Mrs McCallen at the Legends Pharmacy and usually her husband was with her. She is a dear, sweet lady and my thoughts and prayers are with you family. Bev L
