Warren “Garth” Schierling
December 21, 1951 – November 20, 2025
With loving hearts, our family shares the passing of Warren “Garth” Schierling on November 20, 2025 at the age of 73.
Husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Garth-man was dearly loved. Those holding his memory are his devoted wife of 50 years, Hazel; daughter Jennifer (Devin) King and children Trinity, Spencer, Persephone, and Rowynn; son Curtis (Shawna) Schierling and children Aiden, Noah, Poppy, and Caila; daughter Michelle (Derrick) Woodall; brothers Roger (Corrie) and Ralph (Linda) and families; and extended Dueck family. Special bonus family Brian and Nikki Hyland, Mykenzie (Cole), and Morygn. Predeceased by mother Helen 1998, father Henry 2001, and granddaughter Addison Rose Woodall, 2014.
Faith in God and salvation through Jesus was central to Garth’s life beginning at his home and with his first memory, deciding to follow God when he was nine years old as a camper at Redberry lake. He was later a camp counsellor, camp and church board member, brigades leader, and found ways to be involved in the community.
Being in nature on canoe and camping trips was a place he found deep peace, joy, and satisfaction. He was often up early on a Saturday morning whistling while doing yardwork. He enjoyed tackling new projects and hobbies, always eager to learn more skills. Garth had a laid back way about him with a goofy sense of humor but would let his children know with a look if they crossed the line. Trips with Hazel and the kids always brought joy and they enjoyed time with some of the most memorable being the east and west coast.
Garth began work at Flexi-Coil, CNH, when he was 20 years old and spent the majority of his career in purchasing followed by Brandt, Coverall, and Westeel. Many relationships through this work carried into his personal life. His children were always welcome to stop in at the office to visit when picking him up at the end of a work day and he found them many odd jobs to help with (rock picking, rope tying, stamping and filing papers). He retired at the age of 66.
In 2001 Garth and Hazel purchased property at Turtle Lake and took time building a cabin that would serve as a place of enjoyment for many years of family time. In 2017 the lake house project was completed with the anticipation of retiring to the lake in a few years. In 2018 the cancer diagnosis changed these plans and the lake property was sold in 2020. Garth’s greatest joy came from spending time with his kids and grandkids – bigs and littles.
The past eight years have been a difficult walk with multiple myeloma. He went through a challenging stem cell transplant which ultimately gave him more time with his family. During this time he lived a life of restraint from doing the things he loved. In the midst of this he worshiped and praised God, he prayed for people he knew personally and for those he had only heard of. If you met him during this time and asked him how he was he would say “I am blessed.” He knew his God and Saviour and spent time in the Bible. He understood that suffering here and now prepared for the promise of heaven ahead. A large amount of grief and loss happened for Garth and the family during this time and now they rejoice amid the grief, that he is in heaven and free from pain.
His family considers it a privilege and honor to have cared for Garth at home until he peacefully passed surrounded by his family. They are grateful for the support of many family and church members, and the Palliative Home Care team.

Dear Hazel and family. So sorry to hear of Garth’s passing. He fought a good fight. He will be missed. My sincere sympathy and prayers are going out to all of you 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I worked with Garth at Flexicoil/CNH for several years. He was a man of integrity and I respected him a lot. My condolences to all of you. May God bring you comfort!
I worked with Garth here at Westeel for several years, He was a kind and gentle man. My deepest sympathy’s to the family.
Sorrow accompanies our pleasant memories of Garth during our time in Dalmeny. His quiet, pleasant manner always resulted in him being asked to help out or lead something! Our boys and I have many great recollections of our time in Brigade and of course the workshop! Like son Curtis…..like father Garth…… always in the mix and active! As an integral part of DBC leadership, Garth was a steady guide to a firm faith path! The Schierling family had an impact on our family for sure and Garth’s will not soon fade. Our sincere condolences to you!
We knew Garth through church life, specifically through small-group involvement. Garth was a profoundly spiritual man anchored in the Bible, engaged in prayer, marked by a resilient faith… with his eyes fixed on Jesus Christ and His eternal kingdom. He was a blessing not only in times of health, but equally, and perhaps even more so in his time of illness. His life reflected humility and more broadly the fruit of the Spirit. He was a friend…one that will be missed dearly. I am blessed….we are blessed…and we will cotinue to be blessed in knowing Garth.
Condolences to you Hazel and family.
I was able to take the service in online.
Blessings,
Harry Strauss
