October 31, 1932 – October 22, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stan Schmidt who departed this life on October 22, 2025, at the age of 92 following a brief illness, spending his remaining days surrounded by family.
He leaves behind his sons Dennis, Darcy, and Darwin and daughters Debra and Deanna (Thor); grandchildren Haley, Stuart (Savannah); Jesse, Heather, Laura; Christopher (Ivana); Stephan (Edis); Matthew (Falon); Therese (Darren); and and great-grandchildren Harmony, Cadence, Kyle, Josh and Sydney; Stefan and Atlas; Kaiya, Kiefer, and Aiden; Brady and Cooper; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Stan also leaves behind his brother Marvin (Margaret), and sister Mable Wyer. He was predeceased by sister’s Mildred (Henry), Selma (Elmer), Alice (Jake), Shirley (Lloyd), Miriam (Delmer), and brother Wesley (Violet).
Stan was born in Waldheim to Joseph and Alwina Schmidt (Unrah) growing up on a farm in Dalmeny, then moving to Saskatoon (taking his horse with him) in the 40s. After obtaining a chauffeurs license and working a few years, he joined the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in 1952 eventually being stationed in Calgary. He volunteered for service in Korea and sailed out on the USNS Marine Adder (T-AP–193) with 3000 Canadians and 5000 Americans. Stan married Theresa Bishop in 1956, and started their family in 1957. He continued his career as a City of Saskatoon bus driver and long-haul trucker at MacCoshams, but never lost his passion for horses being a successful rancher, horseman and racehorse owner.
In his later years, Stan spent his days taking long drives with his son Darcy, enjoying the beauty of the Saskatchewan landscape and reminiscing about days past, riding his mower, and visiting friends and family.
Special thanks to Dr. Johnson and the Palliative Care Team at the Hospice at Glengarda in Saskatoon.
The Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. All who knew and loved Stan are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Stan’s memory can be made to the Hospice at Glengarda.
Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

Good day! I’m sorry to announce that due to a family emergency, the celebration of life for Stan Schmidt is canceled.. however, on the bright side, I was asked to lay a wreath in my dad’s honor at the Remembrance Day Memorial at Sask place. My dad, my brother and I took him to this Remembrance Day the last few years, so it will be a fitting finale and tribute. ❤️ much love everyone! thank you for all your comments
