Miriam Tieszen
May 5, 1936 – June 29, 2025
Miriam Rosella (Kornelson) Tieszen passed away in her sleep on June 29, 2025 at the age of 89. Her heart was broken on April 21st when her wonderful husband of 66 years left her to go to his heavenly home. She grieved him deeply. She longed to hear her name be called, to be with Jesus and walk the streets of gold with her Harold.
Mom was born in New Hazelton, BC into a family with 8 children. She had two older brothers and then she came along. She was like a mother to her little sisters.
Mom met her ‘Sweetie’, Harold Roland Tieszen, and they married on September 12th, 1958. They had four children and Mom always said they were so blessed and each one was precious.
Sharilyn Barker (Bruce), Coralea Dyck (David), Leighton Tieszen (Donna), Lyndon Tieszen (Cheryl). their family continued to grow with 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren who absolutely loved their Grandma. She would feed them their favourite meals and was famous for making her Tea Ring! She was the Mother-in-law everyone loved.
She was so giving of herself and put her family first and could turn a compliment around in 5 seconds and have it come back to you. Mom’s love was made of deep devotion, sacrifice, unselfishness and she endured life with whatever came her way.
Mom and Dad impacted many people in their lives together. Volunteering in the kitchen at church for banquets, catering for weddings and funerals. They visited the sick and shut ins bringing them a homemade dinner and fresh buns. Mom taught Sunday School and Pioneer Girls for many years.
Mom dedicated 22 years to working at Central Haven, where she not only did laundry but had a heart for kindness and a beacon of hope. Her loving personality overflowed to her co workers and residents forming deep friendships.
In their retirement years Dad and Mom volunteered for 20 years with MCC making patchwork blankets. They collected fortrel fabric, washing, cutting, ironing and Mom would invent and sew the patches into blanket top patterns that were inspired by colours and designs and so full of love. Then off to MCC to add the filler, backing and do the tying, completing the blanket which would be ready to send to needy countries somewhere in the world for someone to wrap themselves in and feel all the love.
Mom loved reading her Bible and talking to Jesus. Her favourite verse was
Psalm 46:10 “Be Still and know that I am God.”
The legacy she leaves behind are her qualities, her Godly influence, her love, passion for life, and her clean heart. We learned to love, have joy, be respectful, have humility from her.
We will miss those faithful prayers.
Everything she did for us was big.
Every time there were people who tried to make us feel less, she made us feel so much more. Our whole lives we kept taking pieces from her to make us who we are today.
Mom taught us simple ethics in life and she gave us the confidence to do anything.
Before you pray – Believe
Before you speak – Listen
Before you spend – Earn
Before you write – Think
Before you Quit – Try
She loved listening to music and often sang along to “Count your Blessings, name them one by one and When We All Get to Heaven” Mom would often say, Heaven just can’t come soon enough”.
Mom longed to be in heaven and walk the streets of gold with Dad. She wanted to kneel at the feet of Jesus with her new knee.
The song by Alan Jackson, “I Want to Stroll Over Heaven With You”, was another favourite and Mom anticipated what this would be like. This song expresses the desire to be in heaven where the beauty is new, all troubles and heartaches are vanished away.
Today the pages of life with Mom have come to an end, and they are some of our favourite chapters.
In May 2023 Harold and Miriam Tieszen, together with their children, hosted a Celebration of Life where many friends and family joined to share the joys and special moments they had during their 65 years of marriage.
Dad and Mom chose to celebrate their lives while they were still living and share their moments with others. As a result there will be no memorial service.
A private, small graveside service has taken place with family.
Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022
To the Tieszen family! May God be with you and give your strength. You have lost your parents so close together but they are together in Heaven. I have many wonderful memories of working with your mom at Central Haven, she was such a vibrant person there. I remember having “laughing fits” with your mom at work. She will not be forgotten!
My Sincere Condolences go out to the family. I loved working with your mom. She always had a smile to give, or a kind word . I am sure you will miss her so much. Verna Froese
