Stephen Kinch
January 19, 1932 – May 10, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we share the news of our brother and Uncle, Steve Kinch’s passing at the age of 93. Born in Vonda, Saskatchewan to William and Mary Knihnicki, Steve was the third of seven siblings. In 1934 Steve’s family moved to a farm West of Saskatoon where he attended Flowery Dale School, later upgrading his education. He held various jobs throughout his life, including a milk truck driver, Saskatchewan Potash Mine, Kitimat Aluminum Mine, a Mining Teaching position in Indonesia, with his longest career at the Thompson Nickel Mine as a Smelting Engineer. On September 3, 1973, Steve married Wanda Bimbatti, and they settled in Winnipeg, MB. Even after their separation, Steve continued to care for her until her passing in 2020.
In retirement, he dedicated his time to volunteering at the Winnipeg Aviation Museum and enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels. As a member of the Whirlaway Westerners Square Dancing Club, he embraced community and connection. A passionate photographer and world traveler, Steve had an impressive collection of BOOKS and MAPS! Reading widely on a variety of subjects, which equipped him with the remarkable ability to correct facts in most conversations! He had a special interest in poetry.
In 2022 Steve moved back home to Saskatoon and lived in his own apartment until his passing. He was predeceased by his infant sister Sofia, Father William, Mother Mary. Brothers Pete, John, Nick and Bill, Sister in laws Mildred, Alwyn, Dorothy and Donna. Nephew Loyd Kayer, Niece Monica Kayer and brother-in-Law Lawrence Pollock. “There are strange things done in the midnight Sun, by the men who moil for Gold. The Arctic trails have their secret tails, that would make your blood run cold; the northern lights have seen queer sights, but the querist they ever did see, was the night of the marge of Lake Lebarge I cremated Sam McGee”.
Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.
