Anne Dyck
May 14, 1937 – November 14, 2024
It is with great sadness and rejoicing that her family announces the passing of Anne Dyck (nee Fehr). She left this earth to enter her Heavenly home on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Dalmeny Spruce Manor Special Care Home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her children: Gloria (Glenn) Gerbrandt, Glenda (Alvin) Peters, Randall (Darlene) Dyck, Rita (Jason) Peters. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Amanda (Steven) Goetz, Melissa Gerbrandt, Rebecca Gerbrandt; Dana (Spencer) Dick, Ethan, Devin and Jaden; Janis (Rob) Bushman, Evelyn, Daniel, and Peter; Brad Dyck, Kurtis (Leah) Dyck, Kaelan and Lynlee; Ashley (Anthony) Peters, and Seth Peters. Her sisters: Eva Parker, Marge Fehr. Her brothers: Bill (Lillian) Fehr, Peter Fehr, Dave (Grace) Fehr, and Jake (Dorothy) Fehr. Her in-laws: Eva Fehr, Betty Fehr, Gief Fehr, Katie Buhler, Alvina (Wayne) Peddie. She was predeceased by her husband Frank (2002), her parents and many brothers, sisters and in-laws, as she came from a family of 15 children.
Anne was born on May 14, 1937 to Maria and John I. Fehr in Hague, SK and resided there until she met Frank. They were married on July 14, 1957 and moved to Aberdeen, where they farmed until retirement. Anne loved all aspects of farming, which included being the right-hand man, raising chickens, selling eggs, gardening and selling potatoes, as well as entertaining relatives and friends in their home. Anne and Frank retired and moved to Saskatoon in 2000. Anne and Frank shared 45 years together before Frank passed away in 2002.
Life as Anne knew it was over. Everything she would experience now was new to her now that she was alone. She disciplined herself to learn how to deal with her finances. She would ask for advice and a second pair of eyes to look things over but would always deal with it herself. Her social life too was something that changed dramatically as she was now alone. Through her church she met other single ladies, and their bond of friendship grew strong over coffee at Circle Mall food court several times a week. Some of these friendships lasted till the very end as her best friend celebrated her 101st birthday in July and together they enjoyed coffee and a meal together.
In 2015 she realized she needed some assistance in her day-to-day living. After a few falls, which she didn’t tell us about till later, she moved into an assisted living residence. As time passed her walking slowed more and she became visibly tentative with each step. In October 2020 her 32-year-old artificial hips wore out completely and she would never walk again. She would spend the next three months in the hospital.
January 2021 started the final chapter of her life as she moved into Spruce Manor Special Care Home in Dalmeny. Anne’s faith was very important to her. She loved worship times and singing. Often, she could be heard singing “Jesus Loves Me” and the “Doxology” to residents in the care home.
Two weeks ago she was diagnosed with pneumonia, and a week later with congestive heart failure. On Wednesday November 13th she woke up in good spirits, enjoyed her bath and breakfast, but by noon the family was called as her condition deteriorated. All the children and grandchildren came to say goodbye. She acknowledged each one before slipping away and finally entering Heaven’s Glory at 9:21 Thursday evening.
The family would like to thank the staff of Spruce Manor for their love and all they did to ensure Anne had the best of care.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home, where the viewing will take place on November 21, 2024 at 7:00 pm. The interment will take place November 22, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Aberdeen Mennonite Church Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on November 22, 2024 at Pleasant Hill Church, Saskatoon at 2:00 pm.
