Kenneth P. Kroeker
October 29, 1936 – September 11, 2022
Kenneth Peter Kroeker was born on October 29, 1936 to Peter and Helen (Hiebert) Kroeker in the Hepburn Hospital. He was their only child. He attended Brotherfield School until grade 10 and then boarded in Waldheim to finish grade 11 and 12. After high school he took short courses in welding, carpentry, electrical, and computers to aid his farming practice. He really was a jack of all trades and loved to fix things, pretty well until the day he passed. In the last months, he was working on his ’49 Ford pickup, his Allis Chalmers tractor, and his John Deere garden tractor.
Ken took over the family farm after his dad passed away in 1969 and really enjoyed being his own boss. In 1974 he met the love of his life, Anna Wiens after being set up by his neighbours and soon to be brother and sister-in-law. They married on July 19, 1975 and became life partners. Barbara and Janet were born in 1976 and Robert in 1978 and suddenly, life was busy.
Church was an important part of Dad’s adult life and he was baptized as a believer in Jesus at Redberry Lake in 1978. Dad didn’t like attention but liked to serve behind the scenes. For many years he did sound at church, and faithfully took responsibility for maintaining the Brotherfield cemetery. Dad and Mom took many trips with Mennonite Disaster Services, offering to help wherever help was needed.
Dad enjoyed playing and watching sports, fishing, and supporting his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. He loved discussing theology, quoting Shakespeare, and studying history – especially his family genealogy. He and Mom enjoyed travelling together in their retirement, including a special trip to Israel to visit the land where Jesus walked, and a trip to Holland and Ukraine to trace family roots.
Ken was predeceased by his parents Peter and Helen (Hiebert) Kroeker. He is survived by his wife Anna (Wiens) Kroeker; children Barbara (Kim) Worthington, Janet (Lorn) Gieck, Robert Kroeker; and 7 grandchildren, Alex, Danika, Judith, Theo, Jaspar, Richelle, and Norah.
