Glen Isadore Zolotarchuk

December 27, 1934 – January 2, 2026

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Glen Zolotarchuk of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on January 2, 2026. He had just celebrated his 91st birthday. Glen will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sylvia, daughter Sandra/Sandy (Ron) Zurevinski, granddaughters Naomi (Paul) Hansen and Aunya Zurevinski; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families; many relatives, friends and neighbors; and the staff at the Saskatoon Convalescent Home, where he spent the last year of his life.

Glen was predeceased by his loving daughter Patricia Zolotarchuk in 2008, his parents Mike Zolotarchuk in 1990 and Annie Zolotarchuk (nee Stuss) in 1985, as well as his siblings and their spouses: Rose Pawlowski (Mike), Olga Steinitz (Jim), Stella Kubica (Paul), Edward Zolotarchuk (Joan), and William Zolotarchuk (Mabel).

Glen was born December 27, 1934 on the family farm in High Tor, Saskatchewan, within the Porcupine Plain area. He went to a one-room country school in the High Tor School District 4480. Glen lived and worked on the family farm, helping his parents until 1954. At that point, he moved to Saskatoon and began his career as a carpenter, which he did for 41 years, retiring at age 61.

As a carpenter, Glen worked for many construction companies. Initially, he worked for Paul Kubica Construction for four years. Then in 1958, Glen began his work with Steinitz Construction where he remained until his retirement, with a short employment in 1962 for Acme Plumbing and Heating for two years.

Glen met the love of his life, Sylvia Harach, in June 1960, when they were paired together as wedding attendants. They were engaged by November 1960 and married on June 17, 1961. Glen and Sylvia were blessed with two beautiful daughters: Sandra in 1963 and Patricia in 1965. They enjoyed raising their family together and shared 64 and a half years of married life.

Glen designed and built three houses for his family to reside in. His last home was built in 1968. Glen and Sylvia enjoyed meeting many neighbors over the years – given that they were the first on their block at the third and last residence. Glen also built a boat and three campers in the basement of his home. These were made in sections and later reconstructed outside. He also designed and built canoe paddles, outdoor furniture, kitchen items, bookshelves, and later for his granddaughters, a cradle, rocking horse, desk, bedroom furniture, a large outside play structure and many other needed items for his family.

Glen was an outdoors person, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, hiking, cross-country skiing, and downhill skiing, which he took up at the age of 50. Glen was a beekeeper for 10 years and collected and sold honey. In addition, he made candles out of the beeswax. For Sandra and Ron’s wedding, he made peach beeswax tapers and for Naomi and Paul’s wedding, he made small mason jar beeswax candles. Glen’s favorite places to travel were various Saskatchewan lakes, Banff, Lake Louise (where Glen and Sylvia had their honeymoon), and various hot springs in British Columbia. He also enjoyed Northern Saskatchewan canoe trips in the summer with family and friends. Outside of Canada, he traveled to Mexico, Hawaii, and other US destinations.

Glen and Sylvia hosted many family celebrations and get-togethers over the years at their home. They were very kind and gracious hosts, making everyone feel welcome, in addition to being well fed. Glen enjoyed spending time with his daughter Sandra, son-in-law Ron and their two daughters Naomi and Aunya. Glen and Sylvia attended many of their granddaughters’ functions including dance and music performances and recitals, as well as school concerts and performances. He was honored to be at his granddaughter Naomi’s marriage celebration in 2023 and warmly welcomed Paul into his family. Glen and Sylvia’s daughter Patricia was a child with a disability. They loved, supported and enjoyed spending time with her.

Glen was a kind, loving man and very much dedicated to his family. His wife Sylvia and his family were a source of much joy and inspiration to him, and he cherished their time together. As a construction worker, Glen was extremely hardworking, talented, creative and precise in his work. Glen touched many lives in his journey on earth. He was a very gifted man and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. We are so very thankful for Glen’s life and know that he is peaceful now in the arms of Jesus.

The family would like to send a special thank-you to the staff at the Saskatoon Convalescent Home for their care and compassion of Glen, to Dr. Luke Thiel (Glen’s family physician) for his medical expertise in Glen’s care, to the staff at the City Hospital GEM program and Dr. Barbara Anderson, and to all the medical personnel at Royal University Hospital, City and St. Paul’s Hospitals that cared for Glen throughout his journey with Parkinson’s disease.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Glen’s name can be made to the Saskatoon Convalescent Home or to Parkinson Canada. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Stefan and Katrina Funk of Dalmeny Funeral Home (306-254-2022 or www.dalmenyfuneralhome.ca).

Glen’s funeral celebration will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church at 217 Lenore Drive, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with Father Gregory Roth presiding. Interment to follow the service at Woodlawn Cemetery at 1502 – 2nd Avenue North, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Please note that the funeral will not be live-streamed.
