Marilyn was born Marilyn Joyce Dyck in 1942 near Rush Lake, Saskatchewan. She grew up in Herbert attending school where she made many friends. She eventually moved to McMahon and built a life there, where she met and married her husband and had her children, Myron (1961) and Candace (1967). Together, they moved to the farm near Outlook, where she found a rich life in her garden, her family, and her community. And while she found happiness, she also faced difficulties.
Life hit Marilyn over and over again, right from the beginning of her life, and she still kept overcoming. She suffered and waited for joy in the morning. She went through trauma and adversity, she lived with sorrow. She moved house many times, she lost her children Bevin, then Sherry-Lyn, she had challenges with her relationships in her life. And yet Marilyn kept facing those challenges by making the choice to put her trust and love of God in the Mennonite Brethren and Pentecostal churches. Her faith was the central pillar of her life and through it, she enriched and changed other peoples’ lives by sharing healing with friendships, advocacy and volunteering.
It was through faith that Marilyn met her many of her loved ones and connected to ministry, allowing her to share the joy of that faith with others. She found it in her love of sharing her excellent cooking and baking. She shared it in her generosity of support and love for those who needed her. She was always willing to share her gifts and blessings with the world. Marilyn found great joy in her family, especially with her grandkids. And she loved connecting with her community, like the Penner breakfasts and annual picnic at the old Penner School in Clark’s Crossing hosted by Glen and Linda Neufeld. She celebrated her deep and meaningful relationships with many people throughout her life. For Marilyn, family was an open door. She welcomed and adopted others easily and often.
Her strong faith, her abiding love for her family, friends, and community, and her unique view of the world will be missed by all.
A private family burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery near father David Dyck, step-father Henry Busch, mother Annie Busch, and daughter Sherry-lyn.
