Darrel Schindel
November 23, 1954 – November 13, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Darrel Schindel, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Darrel was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Marlene Schindel. He is now joyfully reunited with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of fifty years, Rhonda, and their children: Carey, Mike (Erica) with grandchildren Livia and Mia, and Christopher (Caitlin) with grandchildren Sadie, Gracie, and Jett. He is also survived by his loving sister, Brenda (Brian) Fehr. Darrel’s love for his family was unwavering, and he took immense pride in each of their lives and accomplishments.
Darrel built a meaningful career in Marketing and Communications, working with Flexicoil, CNH, Coverall, and Morris Industries. He retired early at the age of 62 following his cancer diagnosis.
Family was at the heart of Darrel’s life. He cherished vacations with loved ones to Hawaii, Mesa, Costa Rica, Canmore, Florida, and a particularly memorable trip to Italy. Together with Rhonda, he embraced an active lifestyle—cycling with the Horizon 100 Cycling Club, hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, and exploring the mountains.
One of Darrel’s favorite traditions was the annual Father’s Day fishing trip with his sons, their fathers-in-law, and close friends. These weekends were filled with laughter, camaraderie, and the occasional fish. Fishing had long been a favourite past time for Darrel, having previously spent many occasions on the water with his father and extended family.
Darrel’s greatest joy was his family. He adored his grandchildren and never missed a chance to tell them how deeply he loved and would miss them. His love and devotion to Rhonda were evident in every moment they shared—he consistently expressed his affection, encouragement, and support throughout their 50 years together.
Known for his quick wit and warm humor, Darrel had a gift for conversation and connecting with people. He was deeply loved by many and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In 2025, Darrel was ordained as a minister and founded a men’s group at Christ The Healer Gospel Church called “Rooted in Christ.” He led with passion and purpose, living out his faith as a shining example to his family and community.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ The Healer Gospel Church / Life Outreach Campus, located on Highway 16 on Friday, November 21, 2025 at 1:30 p.m.

Even though I had only met Darrel a few times it seemed I knew him well hearing stories through Chris, Teresa & Tom. I was so sad to have heard about his passing. He was in my prayers often the last few weeks. My heart hurts for you all but he is now with his Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ so, we will see him again. Thinking of you all right now….
We are so sad for you Rhonda and your kids and grandkids . Darrel was a shining example what it really meant to be a Christ follower . Praying for much comfort for you Rhonda and your whole sweet family.
Dear Rhonda and family. Lorraine kept us updated on Darrel’s health challenges however receiving his obituary this morning we are saddened to hear of his passing. We are grateful to have met him recently. May you find peace through the love of family and friends surrounding you and may God’s love shine a light on all of you as you walk through these difficult days. With love and care…Elaine and Don
My deepest condolences to you, Rhonda and your family. I saw Darrell as a real family man and a very loving husband to you, Rhonda.
Darrel I hope you can read this from up there. It is really unfair that you had to leave us at a young age. You were a good friend over many years . We biked together, we canoed together, we skiied together, partied together, Hawaii together, and you were the best boss I ever had at Morris Industries. You were always humble, funny, and witty. I am sad we will never do these things again, but I still have the memories…. And then I think of Rhonda who has to go on without you. No one can replace you. You will be missed.
Your friend Hans
This man Darrel Schindel was many things to many. To me he was especially three. Darrel was a kind and caring friend through and through. But the third trait beat them all. He was a constant light that shone in every situation. No matter where, when or why, that inner light that Darrel was, enlightened my moments. When I was half dead on my first Horizon 50km Wednesday ride, there was Darrel, right beside me telling me that those other 42 riders up ahead were just showing off! To our after ride celebrations at Fudd’s, this man was present with inspiration, a smile and often humour that made a difference. To Rhonda, family and Darrel’s zillion friends, my heart and thoughts are with you. I am sad but also celebrating the light Darrel was and is in my heart!
We are so very saddened to hear of Darrel’s passing. May your faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ along with family and friends give you strength, comfort and peace in the days ahead.
Sad to see Darrel’s obit. Our deepest condolences to you and your family Rhonda. May God comfort you during this time and the days ahead as you navigate life without Darrel.
I was fortunate to have worked with Darrel during his time at Morris Industries. Conversations with him were so much fun and we laughed about so many things – especially the way we joked with each other over the hockey teams we cheered for. I am sad to hear of his passing and offer my deepest sympathies to his family.
Sending much love to the family from Auntie Carolyn. Unfortunately I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with Darrel and family, as we never lived in the same city, but my sister (his mama) always kept me informed. I was so saddened to hear of his cancer diagnosis many years ago. You were a wonderful man, Darrel. You lived well, and you were well loved.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Rhonda, and your family. We are very sorry for your loss.
Daryl, I do hope to meet again some day…on the bikes, of course!

So sorry for your loss Darrel was an awesome man.❤️ in our Lord Jesus Christ.
So sorry to hear about Darrel. Our live and prayers go out to you Rhonda and family. He was such a bright light, always friendly and encouraging. We didn’t know him well but we kind of bonded over similar challenges. He will be missed. So glad he got to minister to others more specifically by being ordained. He is rejoicing with his Lord and watching over his family, but hard for those left behind. ❤️🙏
We are so sorry for your loss. May God grant you times of great memories of a life well lived.

May you be comforted by good memories of his time with you.
