Margaretha “Marg” Schmidt
January 15, 1935 – September 3, 2025
Margaretha Schmidt (Peters) passed away in Saskatoon on September 3, 2025, at the age of 90 years old. Marg leaves behind her loving husband of 65 years Loyal, her son Darryl and his wife Carolyn, 3 grandchildren: Lindsay (Leah), Carly, and Benjamin (Lena), and 3 great-grandchildren: West, Joy, and Adalynn.
She is predeceased by her parents Franz & Helena (Reddekopp) Peters, and her 14 siblings.
Marg was born and raised in Warman, SK. After finishing school in 1954, she moved to Saskatoon and began working for SaskTel. She resigned for one year in 1958 to attend Bible school in Regina, and then returned to Saskatoon and SaskTel in 1959. It was that year that she met Loyal and in August of 1960 they were married. They welcomed their son Darryl into the world in May of 1963.
Marg worked nights for 35 years, retiring in 1989 when her first grandchild arrived on the scene. In her younger years, Marg enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking, gardening and spending time with family. All of this came secondary to her faith, and love for Jesus followed closely by the great joy of being a mother to Darryl. She also loved to build a good jigsaw puzzle, often resorting to doing them upside-down to increase the difficulty. She never met a crossword puzzle or sudoku she didn’t make short work of.
Granny took great enjoyment in spending time with each of her grandchildren. She loved playing games and teaching them her love for baking and cooking, while also hosting many a grand sleepover. We will miss Granny’s amazing hugs, hours spent puzzling and playing cards and of course the sweet treats she poured all her love into and took great pride in sharing.
Marg will be laid to rest in Salem Cemetery, with a private family service at a later time to celebrate Marg’s life.
Memorial donations can be made to: The Bridge on 20th Fellowship Center.
Arrangements are in the care of the Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.
We are sorry to hear of Aunt Marg’s passing. During our various family get togethers we enjoyed conversations and visiting with her, May God grant your family peace and comfort at this time.
