Gerry Tkachuk
March 22, 1950 – July 24, 2025
We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Gerry John Tkachuk of Hepburn, SK, on July 24, 2025. Gerry was born to John and Vera (nee Sacewycz) Tkachuk. He is survived by his wife, Winnifred (nee Lamont); daughters Tanya Lung (Kevin), Tasha Fehr (Terence) and Tessa Schellenberg (Todd); grandchildren Alexa Neufeld (Isaiah), Rurik Lung, Kylie Fehr, Katya Lung, Sienna Fehr, Isa and Emmie Schellenberg; his brothers Nicholas Tkachuk (Yolanda) and David (Lori) Tkachuk along with their families, and several cousins.
Gerry was a lifelong teacher and student. His sense of humor and love for science made his classrooms a haven to many over his 45 years of teaching. He was proud of the many letters students sent to him, which demonstrated the impact he made on many lives.
Gerry had a great love for sport and was a prominent football athlete in his youth. He coached years of football and wrestling but found a passion for basketball. He proudly coached all his girls through high school and continued coaching the Hepburn Hawks until this past season. He attended many of his grandchildren’s activities and enjoyed taking them, his brothers and nephews to watch football.
Raised in a traditional Ukrainian home, Gerry practiced the Orthodox religion for many years. Overtime, his faith in God grew and evolved as he was transformed by his personal relationship with Christ. He nurtured this relationship at the Hepburn MB church for the last 25 years.
His community gave so much to his family that he was proud to volunteer where he could – especially sharing his teaching and coaching passions. Gerry’s big smile and joking demeanour made him a friend to many and he will be deeply missed.
A service to celebrate Gerry’s life and homecoming to his Saviour will be held at Hepburn MB Church at 2:00 pm, July 30, 2025.

I think fondly of my first year teaching in Blaine Lake and watching the amazing science projects Gerry did with his students! Such a great motivating science teacher!

Mr Tkachuk was a great teacher. His passion for science inspired me to become a science teacher. We crossed paths a few years ago and were able to have a bot of a visit and of course he said something that made me laugh. I am sorry to hear that he has passed. Please accept my condolences.

Im saddened by the loss of Gerry, every now and then our paths would cross at the Max or Main. Gerry always made it point to stop and chat. I will miss that. Prayers to Gerry’s family. RIP
Gerry was always the one to make me laugh, his smile and personality were contagious. There was no greater kind soul than Gerry. So Sorry for your loss of a great man.
Is this the same Gerry Tkachuk that taught at Aden Bowman Collegiate in the early 1980’s? If so, he was my biology teacher and junior football coach. I remember his great sense of humour and the wonderful encouragement he gave while coaching me in football. I always held him in high regard as a human being. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family and friends.
Dear Win,
My heart hearts. When I saw the notice this morning I went numb. At Bedford, Gerry was one of my two best friends, and a true friend he was. We did much together. I remember him helping me learn guitar, followed by the inevitable garage band attempts at G-l-o-r-I-a by Van Morrison. We were football linemen together and went on a trip with some of the football team to Thetis Island, my first exposure to mountains and coast. And then our years of both teaching at Aden Bowman were happy years. I always felt he had my back and caring for each other was reflected to each other. We saw less of each other in later life but I would look forward to our encounters at Superstore where we shared the same warmth as we narrated what happened since last time we met. My heart goes out to you and yours. Hugs all a round.

Deepest sympathy to you, Winnifred.
To the extended family of Gerry:
Please accept our sincerest condolences for your loss.
I knew Gerry through many ears of teaching and sports associations.
He had a great sense of humour that I will always remember.
Sincerely,
Carl and Wendy Yaworski
Hi Paul, yes it is. Thank you for sharing your lovely memories of him.
It has to be so difficult to get on with living after this tragic change in your family unit. Fathers can never be replaced and most of us don’t get to keep them for our entire lives. Gerry will continue to live in your lives one way or another. Hang onto those memories as they will remind you of who he was and of much he meant to you all. Great inspiring and fun teacher who had a positive impact on many students’ future lives. Please accept our sincerest sympathies.
I am saddened to hear about Gerrey’s passing. Gerrey and I were classmates and good friends back in the day at the Dept. of Biology.
Gerry Tkachuk…a voice from Christmas past. Bedford Road…a year ahead of me. Fondly remembered. So sorry for your loss.
So sorry to hear of the passing of Gerry. Gerry was a good friend and teammate ‘back in the day’. I always hoped to see him again but it never worked out and I regret that. My condolences to his family.

Tasha, Tessa and family,
I was so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I hope the light and love that he gave you – the funny things that made you laugh out loud and the many moments that showed how deeply he cared for you – will shelter your heart in the hours, days, and weeks to come. Sending you love, peace, comfort, and strength my friends.
Love Denita
Win and girls,
I was so sad to hear of Gerry’s passing. Although we lost touch with you over the years, we often spoke fondly of your family. Those basketball days were so fun. Gerry was an amazing teacher and mentor and will be missed by many. Rest in peace my friend.
