Janice Edna Harmon (nee Montgomery)

November 26, 1960 – May 21, 2025

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the peaceful passing of Janice Edna Harmon, known to many as simply Jan, on May 21, 2025, at the Hospice at Glengarda in Saskatoon. Surrounded by her devoted family, Jan completed her hard-fought and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and boundless light.

Born on November 26, 1960, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, at Holy Family Hospital, Jan was the beloved daughter of Bernice and Vern Montgomery. She was predeceased by her parents and her cherished grandparents, Clarke & Ada Ross and Christina & Frank Montgomery.

Jan is lovingly remembered by her husband and soulmate of over four decades, Larry Harmon; her children, Chelsey MacLean (Chris) and Mitchell Harmon (Lisa); her stepdaughter, Lynn Harmon (Cesar); her brother, Robert Montgomery (Debbie); and her adored grandchildren, Tiana, Larisa, Jasper, Cali, Violet, and Poppy, who lovingly called her Mama Jan. She also leaves behind her faithful dog, Theo, and countless friends and extended family whose lives she touched deeply.

Jan was raised in Prince Albert, where she attended school, spent countless happy hours at Little Red River Park, played flute in the Lions Band, attended church camp at Christopher Lake, worshiped at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, enjoyed family holidays to Banff, and Sundays at Waskesiu. She shared a treasured friendship with her childhood friend Laurie, a bond that lasted a lifetime.

After graduating from Carlton High School, Jan pursued her passion for caregiving by studying nursing in Moose Jaw, where she also formed a lifelong friendship with Connie. She became a Registered Psychiatric Nurse, returning to Prince Albert to begin her career in group homes, where fate brought her to Larry, the love of her life. They married on June 4, 1983, at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, beginning a beautiful journey together.

Motherhood was Jan’s greatest joy. She and Larry welcomed Chelsey in 1985 and Mitchell in 1988, and in 1990 the family relocated to Saskatoon, settling in Silverwood Heights. There, Jan built a home full of warmth, laughter, and love, surrounded by neighbours who became like family — especially the McKinstry family and the beloved JJ Thiessen crew.

Jan dedicated 34 years of her life to Elmwood Lodge, where she was not just a nurse, but a pillar of compassion, strength, and kindness. She poured her heart into her work, forming deep bonds with her coworkers and the residents she cared for. Her Elmwood family was dear to her, and she retired only last year, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and heartfelt care.

Outside of work, Jan embraced life’s joys with a generous and open heart. She delighted in making memories with her family — from Disneyland trips, Berry Barn outings, and renting cabins at Jackfish Lake to days spent boating under the sun. Her home was a gathering place filled with love, laughter, and traditions, especially during the holidays when she proudly showcased her magnificent Christmas village, a display she loved to share with everyone who visited.

Jan and Larry cherished the company of their close friends, including dear family friends Pat and Gavin, whose friendship was a valued and constant presence over the years.

Becoming a grandmother filled Jan’s heart to overflowing. She adored her grandchildren, who were the center of her world, showering them with love, attention, and endless “Mama Jan” spoiling.

Jan’s love for animals was legendary — she cherished every pet she welcomed into her home and was a passionate advocate for all creatures. She had a gift for seeing the beauty in the world, often capturing it through her love of photography. She found joy in simple pleasures: trips to Jamaica with Larry, beach walks, ocean swims, hunting for the perfect shopping bargain, surprising loved ones with thoughtful treats, and feeding everyone who came through her door.

Jan’s favorite color, yellow, was a perfect reflection of her soul: bright, positive, cheerful, and a ray of sunshine in the lives of all she met. Her warmth, attentiveness, and love were boundless, and she leaves behind a world that is brighter because she was in it.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Jan’s honour on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Church, Saskatoon. To watch the live stream please click on the link below.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the SPCA or an animal charity close to your heart — a tribute befitting Jan’s lifelong love for animals. To honour Jan’s bright spirit, we kindly ask attendees to wear yellow or your brightest, most joyful colours.

Though we will miss her every day, Jan’s love, kindness, and radiant spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

I worked with Jan at Elmwood and it was always a joy to see her there. She was my P.A. sister. My family were friends with her Mother and Father. We would always talk about our P.A. fun times. I will remember the great times we had. Darla

My heart goes out to every one of Jan’s family. As her cousin, I knew her for a long time, even though we didn’t always live in the same place. She was a sweet baby cousin to me as I am now the oldest of the cousins she was related to on her Ross side. And I never remember her not smiling and being pleasant. She was someone to look up to., I am so glad that about 3 years back I got to visit with her and Larry on a lazy afternoon in Saskatoon where old family memories were shared. I am so sorry her life was shortened but I know she lived life to the full while she could. And she lives on in the memories of her family forever.

We had the privilege of knowing Jan as a good friend and neighbour for 35 years.
Jan had a fun and creative flare. We enjoyed her wonderful displays of Halloween and Christmas decor in her front yard and the gift of perfect peanut brittle every Christmas,
She will be remembered for how she truly cared about people. Always warm, welcoming and willing to help. Jan will be deeply missed by those whom her kindness touched.
Our heartfelt condolences to the Harmon family. Sending love and blessings to each of you.
