Philip Alexander Serhienko

July 5, 1944 – May 12, 2025

Philip passed away peacefully at the Hafford Special Care Centre on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the age of 80.

Philip Alexander Serhienko was born in Saskatoon, SK on July 5, 1944 to Bill and Dora Serhienko. He grew up on a farm south of Blaine Lake, SK and started his education at Brookhill School, then Blaine Lake and Yorkton. Phil worked at the bank in Blaine Lake, Aberdeen and Birch Hills and then worked for Sask Wheat Pool Livestock division in Yorkton and Saskatoon for 15 years. He worked for Brinks for 20 years, retiring in 2007. He sold his farm by Grandora and moved to Blaine Lake where he worked for the RM and in 2010, moved to Hepburn to be closer to his grandkids.

Phil loved horses, hunting and auction sales. Many stories involved breaking teams of horses and the great deals he got at an auction sale. In the last few years, he spent a lot of time watching baseball on TV and fishing at the trout pond in Waldheim. Phil loved to snack – whether it was a Kit Kat, ice cream, bag of cheezies or McCain’s coconut cake, he ate it until it was gone.

Phil was proud of Trent’s cow herd, often commenting on how good they looked. He enjoyed opening gates or just watching the family doing chores. But even more, he loved his grandkids. He would often be parked in the driveway, waiting with treats, for the grandkids to get home from school. He would walk around the farm looking at the animals, especially Caybri’s kittens. The grandkids joke about the time Grandpa Phil heard they liked All Dressed chips and fudgsicles and then continued to buy them some every day for weeks.

Even over these last months, as his mind began to fail him, Phil still asked how calving was going, how many cattle Boden bought that day, where Zayne was playing basketball and what time Caybri was done gymnastics.

Phil was pre-deceased by his parents and sister Donna. He is survived by his son Trent (Caley) Letkeman and their children (Boden, Zayne and Caybri), daughter Kim (Tyler) Blanchette and their children (Bennett, Briar and Briggs), brothers Ted (Mina), John (Christine), nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at Dalmeny Funeral Home, 139 3rd Street, Dalmeny, SK with interment to follow at Brook Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.
