Family Owned, Family Focused

Harold Roland Tieszen

Harold Roland Tieszen

December 5, 1937 – April 21, 2025

Harold Roland Tieszen passed away in his home, Monday, April 23, 2025 at the age of 87.  His son, Lyndon, was beside him holding his hand, thanking him for being a wonderful Dad and praying with him. He closed his eyes and went to his heavenly home.

Dad was born in Hepburn, Saskatchewan into a family of 6 children. Harold had one older brother and 4 older sisters. He was the baby of the family. His family was waiting for him in glory as he was the last one to leave this earth.

Dad met the love of his life, Miriam Rosella Kornelson and they married on September 12, 1958.  They had four children whom they loved and cherished.

Sharilyn Barker (Bruce), Coralea Dyck (David), Leighton Tieszen (Donna), Lyndon Tieszen (Cheryl). Their family continued to grow with 7 grandkids and 15 great grandchildren who adored their Gramps. Always learning from him.

Dad worked at Reimer Express Lines for over 37 years and the majority of those years as the Dock Foreman.  During those years, Dad & Mom impacted many people through their volunteering in the kitchen at West Portal Church.  They were in charge of the catering group.  They cooked and prepared food for banquets which included Missions, Thanksgiving banquets, Christmas banquets, Weddings and Funerals.

Dad was a master gardener and had the green thumb we all envied. He could grow any produce and his specialty was tomatoes.

Dad and Mom always visited the sick and lonely,  often bringing homemade dinners and Mom’s baking.   They also carried on prison ministry visits that Grandpa Kornelson initiated.  Dad would drive people around who couldn’t drive, hosting missionaries and singing groups for night.  Dad was the Sunday School superintendent at West Portal Church for many years.

In their retirement years Dad and Mom volunteered for 20 years with MCC making patchwork blankets.  Dad did the advertising for clothes made from fortrel. They would wash the clothes, take them apart and iron them. Dad would cut the patches and Mom would artistically arrange the most eclectic coloured polyester patches into a beautiful Joseph-like multicoloured master piece and sew them together. Then off to MCC to add the filler, backing and do the tying completing making the blanket ready to send to needy countries somewhere in the world.  Many less fortunate people have reaped the rewards of Harold and Miriam’s efforts.

Dad loved Jesus. His faith was contagious. He was ready to go to his Heavenly home.

Dad’s favourite passage was, Psalm 100. “1 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! 2 Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. 3 Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.”

Our wonderful Dad is in Heaven with Jesus. Death is a part of life!  The best things in life are the people we love, and Dad loved.  He made memories with all of us along the way.  Camping was a favourite.

Today, the pages of life with him have come to an end, and they are some of the most beautiful chapters.

Proverbs 13:22  “… a good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.”

The legacy and Inheritance that our wonderful Father has left for us, is all his qualities, his godly life, and his clean heart. Now that’s a rich inheritance.

In May 2023 Harold and Miriam, together with their children, hosted a Celebration of Life where many family and friends joined to share the joys and special moments they had during their 65 years of marriage.

Dad and Mom chose to celebrate while they were still living and share those moments with others.  As a result there will be no memorial service.

A private, small graveside service will take place with family.

Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

It is with profound sadness that we read the news of Harold’s passing. He was a very gentle and humble man. We enjoyed many cups of tea around their kitchen table.
