Douglas Vincent Fisher
February 10, 1931 – March 16, 2025
Doug Fisher passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, at the age of 94.
Doug was born on February 10, 1931. He grew up on the family farm near Hague, Saskatchewan with his parents, Henry and Laura. It was a large family that included 11 siblings.
In 1956 he met the love of his life Yvonne. Doug and Yvonne celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary on August 9, 2024. While living in Saskatoon they started their own family of 4 children; Douglas, Allan, Bert and Monique. In 1961 Doug started his career as a firefighter with the Saskatoon Fire Department. He worked as a firefighter for 30 years. He became a Lieutenant before retiring at age 60. In 1980 Doug and Yvonne moved their family onto an acreage not far from Saskatoon. For over 40 years Doug enjoyed his time on the acreage with his family and the many friends who would visit.
Doug was a man of numerous talents and interests. He was an avid outdoorsman, talented musician, skilled leather worker, hobby farmer, photographer, and collector of antiques. His talent with leather grew into a business called Fisher Saddlery Ltd with a store on 2nd Avenue North. Doug always seemed to be on the go with places to be and people to see. When he finally stopped to rest and put his feet up he enjoyed reading about a variety of subjects with a particular interest in stories about the Old West.
Doug’s greatest talent was his ability to connect with people. Whether sitting at the dinner table sharing a meal with family and friends or at a farm auction talking to someone he just met, he was always a generous conversationalist. He was often the one asking questions and then listening patiently with genuine interest to the response. This natural ability of making people feel special and appreciated in his presence is why so many will forever fondly remember Douglas Vincent Fisher.
Doug is survived by his loving wife Yvonne, son Allan (Freda), son Bert, daughter Monique (Dwayne and grandchildren Kyle, Justin, and Morgan), grandson Jay (Ashley), grandson Michael (Megan and great grandchildren Jade and Max), granddaughter Kaytee (Blair), and many other family and friends. Doug and Yvonne lost their oldest son Douglas in 2004.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oliver Lodge for the great care they provided Doug for the last 10 months.
There will be a graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery on Thursday, April 3rd, 2025 at 1:00 pm with a time of fellowship to follow at Saints Martyrs Canadiens, 1007 Windsor St, Saskatoon. (Please park at rear of church).
Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

I had the privilege of knowing Doug for many many years. I remember when I was still a kid he would come and stay at our home in Theodore and go hunting from there then, as I grew up, I got to know him as a coworker on the Saskatoon fire department. Doug helped me in many ways in my personal life and our closely related hobbies.
So sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. My condolences to the Fisher family. I phoned Doug on his 90th birthday, I think, or maybe it was one more recently. He sounded veery happy, and “with it”. Even though he lived a full life until 94, I was surprised to hear this news.
Doug and I worked together for a few years back in the 70’s at 3 Station. I got to know him quite well, and we used to have a lot of laughs.
I even roofed a building out at the farm and was privileged to go into the basement of the house and see all the collectibles. Doug had a passion for this, and he was good at it. He will be missed.
Many of our happiest memories include Doug and Yvonne and their family. The fishing trips with them and Yvonne’s parents, the rodeos and cowboy poetry gatherings. Our kids grew up together having a great time. Our love and condolences to Yvonne, the boys and Monique.
Thinking of your family at this sad time. Will always remember Doug as a gentleman and kind heart hearted man. RIP Doug
My condolences to you Yvonne and family. I have many fond memories working with Doug at SFD, and refinishing furniture with Doug. But especially visiting and learning from Doug. What an insightful, gentle soul.
So sorry for your loss, Yvonne and family. My husband Bob worked with Doug when he was a firefighter. He always spoke well of him..
