Family Owned, Family Focused

Ardis Hartviksen

Ardis Hartviksen

July 25, 1940 – March 8, 2025

Ardis took her last breath on this earth and passed peacefully into her new life and heavenly home just after sunrise on March 8th, 2025  at the age of 84.

Ardis was the youngest of five children born to Emil & Martha Sand and grew up on the homestead near Rivercourse, Alberta. She recounted many fond memories of life on the farm. She bravely set off for the city of Edmonton as a young adult to pursue further education and become a teacher.  After finishing her teaching degree she went to Bible College for one year where she met the love of her life Kurt.  They married in 1965 and together had a full and faith-filled life. They had two daughters, Kristine and Michelle.

Ardis was devoted to Jesus and loved to pray. She was a loving and faithful wife and mother, consistently putting her family ahead of herself. Ardis had a long teaching career with a bulk of her years teaching at Fort Saskatchewan Christian School where she passionately taught early grades and “littles”, directed Wee College and oversaw the home-schooling program. She adapted when Dad’s career took them to new places and would seek ways to teach and serve in her work, community and church families.

Although teaching was her passion, she had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, reading, card making, Bible studies and volunteering in libraries. She used these not only for her own joy but always looking for ways to “take care” of people, giving generously. Her kindness, warmth and sweet spirit touched everyone who knew her and her faithful commitment to prayer impacted many.

Ardis was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years Kurt Hartviksen; parents Emil & Martha Sand; parents-in-law Edwin & Elvira Hartviksen; siblings Lawrence (Julie) Sand, Stena (Gus) Bengtson, and twin baby brothers; nephew Lin Reinhart and niece Donna Bengtson along with many close friends.

She is survived and will be greatly missed by her daughters Kristine (Darcy) Hartviksen and Michelle (Michael) Linnen and by her grandchildren Aaron, Khloe, Llyr, Taegyn, Christopher & Nicholas (Raeleigh).  Ardis will also be lovingly remembered by her sister in law Judith (Colin) Hindle, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

We would like to thank all of the amazing staff at Spruce Manor.  You have gone above and beyond over the past five years and became family to our mom!  Thank you for loving and caring for her so well.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 11:00 am at Erindale Alliance Church, 310 Perehudoff Cres, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with a reception to follow. A family interment will follow the reception at Woodlawn Cemetery.
