Jack Gerald Amson
December 17, 1935 – February 8, 2025
Jack Gerald Amson passed away at RUH in Saskatoon peacefully on February 8, 2025, with family by his side. Jack was born December 17, 1935 in Krydor, SK. He was second son of Jack Sr. and Beatrice Amson of Krydor. Jack had an older brother Jim and a sister Shirley.
Jack met Myrtle Thue through his brother Jim who was dating Norma Thue, sister to Myrtle. Jack fell madly in love with Myrtle while she was in training as a Registered Nurse and they were married December 4, 1959. They really completed each other and had a wonderful special full life together until Myrtle passed April 4, 2019.
Jack used to help Jim in his butcher shop and then one day decided to start a painting business. After being trained by Bill Irwin he went on his own and could be found around the province spray painting the towns red.
In 1967 Jack and Myrtle moved to a farm at Radisson and thought they had the world by the tail. Their family grew and they had 8 kids who worked together to grow the family farm. Jack had a love for cattle and passed that love onto many children and grand children. He quickly had to learn everything on his own about farming and was happy to have Jack Fowlie and Len Park to help him out and Daryl Amey to help repair the machinery.
Jack was very active in the community. He enjoyed shooting pool and curling was his game of choice. His curling team even scored a rare eight ender once. Jack also coached hockey, played slow-pitch. At 84 years old he had to run bases for Marsha that year since she hurt her ankle and prior to that he was our family team pitcher. Jack was a family man always believing in his kids and that they could do anything. He enjoyed visiting with friends, family and even strangers. Every day he took an hour off to meet up with coffee row at the Red Bull.
Survived by Greg (Kelly), John (Arlene), Wendy (Nick) Jonescu, Tim (Gayle), Dave (Lori), Rocky (Sherry), Marsha (Rick) Bzdel, and Tania. Jack has 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. His in laws Donna (Don) Dolgopole, Sheila Thue, Levonne Thue, Joan Thue, Joyce Haines and many nieces and nephews. Also, his brother Jim Amson’s family Brad (Kathi) Amson and Blake’s partner Donna.
Jack is also survived by Alice Garvik who he lived with and enjoyed each other’s company dearly for two and a half years. They were like teenagers dating, it was great to see the youthful love they had for each other. Jack could always be heard saying how special Alice was always to him.
Jack cannot be replaced and has left an everlasting impression on everyone who knew him and will leave a huge hole in all our hearts.

He was one of my most m and dad friends who would always stop in for coffee. After there passing he would stop in at Peoples in Midtown plaza to have a visit and tell a tale or two of mom at school and playing ball. I was always glad to see and I got his phone number and had a great visit. My thoughts and prayers to all of his family. RIP

So sorry to hear of Jack’s passing. It sounds like he had an incredible life. He was a wonderfully warm and gracious man. My Aunt Alice was Jack’s girlfriend and I know they were happy together. I heard many times how well Jack treated Alice and it was nice to see Alice find love again.

To the extended Amson family and Alice,
Please accept my deepest condolences on Jack’s passing. In the summer of 2022 Jack graciously took me on a tour of the sites of our distant family connections around Radisson. I will forever be grateful to him for that wonderful day. It was a hot August day which culminated in a cold beverage at the Red Bull which I now see was truly an honour.
May your sweet memories of Jack bring you comfort in the coming days and years.
Deepest condolences to all the Amson family. Jack always had time for a visit. He was so proud of all his family. Thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time of sorrow.

Our sincere sympathy to all the family of Jack on this occasion of his passing. Jack and Myrtle left a huge footprint in the community of Radisson; warm, caring hearts and a desire to serve in so many ways. Myrtle would stop anything she was doing when a call came for emergency nursing care of any kind.they were strong supporters of The Agricultural Society, all sports events wherever their children were involved etc. we will remember them with fondness & gratitude
So sorry to lose another friend. Jack was part of my life; firstly at school, in the coffee shop, coaching kids hockey. He gave a lot of himself wherever he went. I know you will miss his wisdom and humour.
Myrtle was a perfect compliment. Always sharing and caring. They will always be part of my good memories…. I know you will miss him greatly.,
My sincere sorrow for the loss of a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Jack was a great member of the Radisson community. He coached my one son and I believe they did provincials. He loved his family and was so proud of them. Thanks for being the sterling person you were.
Sorry to hear of your loss, sending thoughts & prayers to family & friends through this difficult time
