Sandra Olive (Boehr) Schofield, 78, peacefully closed the final chapter of her extraordinary life on December 19, 2024, at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Her story began in the most unexpected of places—The Avenue A Service Station—where she arrived in a rush, setting the tone for a life brimming with vibrant energy, humour and grace. From the very beginning, Sandra left an indelible mark on everyone she met, a legacy that will be remembered with love and admiration.

Sandra’s life was a testament to her Christian faith and her dedication to serving others. Whether through her work as a Certified Nurse’s Aide, her role as a professional housekeeper, her volunteer efforts with the Mennonite Central Committee, or her place as a neighborhood mother to all, Sandra’s warmth and generosity touched countless lives. She also ran a successful business with her long-time friend, Mildred Dyck, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit, but her greatest joy and purpose was found in being a mother. Her children remember her as a loving, selfless, and devoted mom—truly the heart of their family.

Sandra’s hobbies reflected her zest for life. She delighted in watching Blue Jays games, playing Scrabble and card games, and solving puzzles on Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. But perhaps her greatest joy was playing crib with Bill, where the clinking of Diet Coke glasses and peals of laughter became a tradition as sweet as their love story.

Her wisdom often came wrapped in humour, and her children fondly remember her famous phrase, “Is that really necessary?”—a line delivered with equal parts patience and wit. Sandra’s advice, her dazzling smile, and her ability to make you laugh until you cried will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew her.

Sandra was predeceased by her parents, William and Ewanda Boehr, her mother-in-law, Susie Schofield, her brother, Siebert, her sister-in-law, Eleanor and her beloved son, Cyril. While losing Cyril was her greatest sorrow, her family finds comfort in knowing they are now reunited, their bond unbroken and their love eternal.

Sandra is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Bill Schofield, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter and cherished memories. Her legacy of love lives on through her children: Amber (Ken), Nola, Niall, Denise, Robyn (Jesse), Mike and James, and her adored grandchildren: Olivia, Isabella, Abigail, Wade and Jaylynn. She is also deeply missed by her brother Carl (Lee), sister-in-law Tina Boehr, brother-in-law Gary, sister-in-law Margaret, brother-in-law George and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Sandra leaves behind a cherished circle of friends who were like family to her, and an integral part of her journey, sharing in her triumphs and standing by her in difficult times. She had a special way of creating connections that lasted a lifetime.

Sandra embraced Indigenous ways of knowing and felt deeply blessed when Niall reconnected with his biological family in April 2017, weaving new bonds that brought even more love and togetherness into their lives.

Sandra passed peacefully, cared for with compassion by the staff at Royal University Hospital, who ensured she was treated with dignity and kindness in her final moments. Her life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and faith—a shining example of how to live with kindness, generosity, and purpose. She will be deeply missed but forever celebrated by all whose lives she touched.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who visited Sandra in her final days. December began without any hint of the heartache that would soon become their new reality, but the outpouring of love and support brought them comfort during an unimaginably difficult time. They are especially grateful to those who called, visited, held her hand, gave her hugs, shared stories and sang to her in her final hours. Your kindness will forever be remembered.

Sandra’s vibrant spirit was reflected in her love of bright colours. Her family invites those attending her funeral to honour her memory by wearing shades of pink, orange, green, or red, instead of traditional blues and blacks, as a celebration of her joyful and radiant life.

A viewing will be held at Dalmeny Funeral Home on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. Sandra’s Memorial Service will take place on Friday, December 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Royal Mennonite Church (610 Ave O North, Saskatoon, SK).
