Guy Andrew Gratias

Guy Andrew Gratias

October 20, 1944 – August 10, 2024

Guy Andrew Gratias passed away peacefully at his home in Saskatoon on August 10, 2024, at the age of 79.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Valerie; three sons, Brent (Tracey), Mat (Chanda), and Aaron (Tanya); grandsons Logan (Lauren) and Reece; a brand new great-granddaughter, Isla; brothers Richard (Joy) and Ross (Denise); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Percy and Astrid Gratias; brother, Kim; and sister, Vicky.

Guy was raised and schooled in Prince Albert, spending summers at the family farm near Kinistino. He continued his education at the University of Saskatchewan, attaining both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education (and his pilot’s license). He later taught at the Saskatoon Business College and Gabriel Dumont College, retiring after working with Revenue Canada in Client Services for 13 years.

Guy was known for his storytelling skills—always told with a quick wit, a dash of humor, and an obscure fact. He coined himself a “Fountain of Useless Information.”  His gentle demeanor made him an easy friend to cats and dogs alike.  He was intrigued by fountain pens, good books, historical facts, vests of many pockets, his Tilly hat, photography, and motorcycles (owning several).

Guy was a spiritual man. He loved creation and was a deep student of the Bible throughout his life. He raised his family as Jehovah’s Witnesses and served as an elder in his congregation for many years. Guy had very strong faith in God’s promises for the future, including Revelation 21:4 – “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.”

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 17, at 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1725 McKercher Drive, Saskatoon, and on Zoom (Meeting ID: 833 9817 5467, Password: 222040).

Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

I am so sorry to hear of Guy’s death. I pioneered with his sister Vicky for some time. Guy took the photos at my wedding and advised me to buy a Dodge Dart as my first car. It was the best car ever. My condolences to all the family.
