Martha Dyck (Huckabay)
January 30, 1935 – June 13, 2024
It is with sadness, the family of Martha Emmaline Dyck announces her peaceful passing on June 13, 2024. Mom was born a premature baby on a farm on Rak Road, January 30, 1935. She was kept warm in a box on the stove. She was raised on the farm with her brother Gilbert and sister Yvonne. Martha survived polio and was challenged with post polio syndrome through the remainder of her life. Doctors told her she would be wheelchair bound by age 45, but she stubbornly resisted being in a wheelchair until she was 85.
Mom very much loved God, dad, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. When the great grandchildren would visit, it would always brighten her up.
She was an amazing cook, her pies, cookies, noodles, homemade soup and canning were always very popular with the family. Family and friends alike will remember her frying fish for a crowd, which she had down to a fine science. Mom never liked fishing, but she very much enjoyed being on the water. She loved a good game of dice or cards, was very competitive and frequently won.
Martha is survived by her sons Rodney (Vivian), Preston (Christine), daughters Katherine (Robert) Mills, Karen (Gerald) Belsey, 13 Grandchildren, 33 Great Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Martha was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, John J. Dyck, her parents Gilbert and Katherina Huckabay, brother Gilbert and sister Yvonne and great granddaughter Kailey.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Aberdeen Community Hall.
The family would like to thank the staff at Samaritan Place for the excellent care in Martha’s last months.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Diabetes Society.
Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

We would like to express sincere condolences for your loss especially to Jon and Karen and families. It was a lovely obituary. She sounded like a lady with a lot of fun and grit and will be sadly missed. Such a blessing to have had a strong mama in the family. Thoughts will be with you and comfort prayed for you in this time.
Thank you 🙏 AnnaMarie and Gary
Sincere condolences to the family . Your Mom was a lovely lady. Thinking of you all at this sad time. 🙏🏻
My dear (second) cousin Martha. I remember her well. She was our babysitter til she married Johnny. As a small child I would visit them in Saskatoon for a few days during Christmas holidays. Very fond memories our days on neighbouring farms. As a preschooler I’d walk across fields and pasture to their farm and have to be walked the half mile back home. I have nothing but warm memories of cousin Martha and Johnny.
I’m sending my heartfelt condolences as I unfortunately will be away and am unable to attend the celebration of life in person. I am grateful I was able to have many visits with her and share in fond memories of time our families spent together.. Family meant so much to her. She spoke of how blessed to have all of you and how good you were to her. She will always hold a special place in my heart. Love from Wendy
