Cornelius Freddie Buhler
December 3, 1951 – January 4, 2024
Cornelius Freddie Buhler was born on December 3, 1951, in Tisdale SK. His growing up years were spent in Hague attending school, but his public education was only short term and soon after that he began his working career. He’s done everything from basements, concrete, working for Pepsi, and his highlight job was in the Northwest Territories. He was baptized upon the confession of his faith in 1968, in the Hague Conference Church. He married his sweetheart, Mary Wiebe, on August 10, 1974, in the Reinfeld Bergthaler church. Shortly after they married, dad decided to try his hand at farming. They started the home place in 1977 on 80 acres and operated a small dairy there for about 15 years. Shortly after, he and Mom opened the Teahouse in Hague where they served many locals soup and pie for 2 ½ years. Dad also spent many hours helping the local farmers driving silage trucks and any other odd jobs he could lend a hand with. Dad had many hobbies and interests collecting antiques and unique items. He loved family history and reminiscing stories of days gone by, fencing, tinkering on the farm, road trips, visiting, and fishing, but most of all time spent with Mom.
Most of his life he dealt with various struggles with his health. In June 2015, he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. He went through his first stem cell transplant that winter and another transplant procedure five years later. Throughout all three bouts of cancer treatments he endured he never experienced pain and felt relatively good once he was able to come home. In 2020, he narrowly avoided a massive heart attack and had five stents put in. This last diagnosis was the beginning of a downhill journey of his health. He became sick shortly before Christmas and due to his weakened immune system it brought him down quickly. He spent nearly two weeks in Rosthern Hospital and was transferred to RUH on December 29th. Christmas as a family was hard knowing he wanted to be at home with his loved ones. Throughout his time in the hospital we were able to spend a lot of time praying, singing, and visiting with him. He kept his sense of humor and quick wit until almost his last breath. Dad was ready and just wanted to go home to be with the Lord.
Surviving Cornie are his loving wife, Mary, of almost 50 years, children: Juanita (Henry) Reimer; Damaris (Carter) Reddekopp, Jane and Eli; Grace, Seth. Ivan (Ruth) Buhler; Elliana, Julia, Josiah. Sharmen (Joseph) Martin; Judson, Nathanael. Two brothers, eight brothers and sisters in law, many nieces and nephews and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents John and Sarah Buhler, brother in laws Peter Wiebe and Abe Buhler.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me… Psalms 23:1-4
