Mary Jantzen
June 12, 1929 – December 26, 2023
It’s with heavy hearts but eternal hope we announce that Mary Jantzen went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at the age of 94.
Mary was born in Hanley, Saskatchewan on June 12, 1929. She was the second child born to Jacob and Louise Boldt and grew up in and around Hepburn, Saskatchewan where she made many friends, some lifelong. She attended Bethany Bible College where she met the love of her life, Norman Jantzen.
Norm and Mary lived life and raised their family of four children in the communities of Dalmeny, Melfort and Saskatoon. While Norm pursued his teaching career, Mary fostered a loving and caring home for their four children. Mary fully supported Norm’s commitment to serve with missional organizations like Gideons, Redberry Bible Camp and IVCF but Mary and Norm were also committed partners actively serving in their local church.
Mary and Norm loved spending time with family including road trip vacations, family gatherings and time at their cottages at Brightsands and Anglin Lake. Mary loved to be active and participated in a weekly women’s bowling league together with close friends Marg Goetz, Irene Dyck and Serena Balzer. She enjoyed gardening and loved to pick raspberries with her grandchildren in her huge backyard on Addie Court. Mary loved to bake, to knit afghans for her grandchildren and always had a voracious appetite for reading.
Mary was incredibly hospitable and made everyone feel like family when visiting her home. Her sincere smile and heartfelt laughter brightened the lives of so many people over the years as she shared her home and her love so graciously. That love extended to many international students over the years many who still fondly call her their “Canadian mom”. Serving the Lord by serving others was at the core of who she was. Her strong faith in God was reflected in her hospitality as well as in every other part of her life as she helped others and loved them in such practical ways.
Mary is survived by her children Larry Jantzen, Byron (Rhonda) Jantzen and Kathy (Earl) Armitstead, daughter in law Val Jantzen; grandchildren, Jesse (Stephanie)Jantzen, Jameson Jantzen, Dylan (Kerry), Jantzen, Chelsea (Michael) Morson, Caitlin (James) Paul, Joel (Maria) Jantzen, Lauren (Shane) Smith, Michelle Epp and Alexis Epp; great grandchildren, Jenna Jantzen, Samuel Jantzen, Mila Jantzen, Maxwell Jantzen, Georgia Morson, Faye Morson, Reuben Morson, Clive Morson, Peter Morson, Juniper Paul, Samuel Paul, Cosette Paul, Ava Jantzen, Victor Jantzen, Leo Jantzen, Weston Smith and Carson Smith as well as three step grand-children Christina, Kerry, Carly and their families.
Mary was predeceased by her grand son Joshua, her husband Norman and son Richard.

My condolences, Byron and family. I’m glad that your Mom was able to be with family during her last days. It sounds like she had a long and fulfilling life. Thinking of you during this time.
Mary and I connected while volunteering at the Forest Grove Nursery for many years – watching her -Love, Joy and Kindness emanated from her. So sorry for your loss.
Dear Larry, I am sure that you will miss your mom. I remember times in your home in Dalmeny, playing with Larry and Ricky, as a small child. And later visiting in Melfort. Your parents were dear friends of my parents. May the Lord remind you of many good times and blessings together, and comfort your heart.
Our condolences to the Jantzen family. It was wonderful having Mary and Norman as neighbours on Addie Court. We’ll especially remember the backyard visits and fresh baked buns Mary would bring over many times. We are sure all of your wonderful memories of Mary will provide you comfort at this time.
Sending heartfelt condolences to the Jantzen family. Mary embraced me as a granddaughter and because of this she will always hold a special place in my heart. Her legacy of love will continue to inspire me.
Wishing your family peace during this difficult time.
