Arthur Martynes
October 6, 1932 – September 13, 2023
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather “Opa”. Arthur “Art” passed away peacefully in Hospice on September 13th, 2023, with family by his side.
Arthur was predeceased by his parents, Peter, and Agnes Martynes. He will be profoundly missed by his loving wife Ida, children, Konrad, Markus, and Natasha, and his beautiful grandchildren, Garrison, Sascha, Marek and Larz.
Art was born on October 6th, 1932, in a small cottage just down the road from the current farm at Ruddell. He attended school in Ruddell via horse back and went off to boarding school at the young age of 14. After his grade 12 year he ventured off to Hamilton, Ontario where he studied the trades. His heart though belonged to the farm in Ruddell, and he made his way back. He bought land next to his parents and went on to set up a feedlot with feeder cattle, and then eventually take over his parent’s operation. Into his retirement, his hands still needed to be in the soil, and planting trees became his new passion, and he did so until his body allowed him.
Rooted in Saskatchewan, he had a deep love of the land. He was a farmer through and through and preferred the quiet solace of wide-open fields, to any social function. You could often find him nestled in his office planning crops and world travels or reading westerns. Being a man of few words, you never really knew what he was thinking, but his eyes were the windows to his soul, for they would shine during the joyful times and well up with tears when seeing his loved one’s experience pain and heartache.
We are truly filled with gratitude to have walked alongside such a kind, humble, philanthropic human being while on this earth, for he has taught us so much…not through words, but by intentional action that has made such a meaningful and positive impact on the lives of many.
A public viewing will take place on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at 10:00am with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with both services at Dalmeny Funeral Home, 139 3rd Street, Dalmeny. The burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Ruddell Cemetery.
