Caroline Fast
April 26, 1934 – September 8, 2023
Carrie Fast (nee Schmidt) was born in Saskatoon, SK to Peter and Tina Schmidt. She was raised in Hepburn SK., the second youngest of 11 siblings. She committed her life to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her faith was evident throughout her life.
Carrie’s passions were singing and playing the piano. She took piano lessons from Lyle Gustin, a well known and respected piano teacher. This required her to take the train into Saskatoon, her dedication did not wane on those cold winter days. Singing was a natural talent for Carrie. At 9 years of age she was a guest singer on the Sunday Radio Broadcast, standing on a chair to reach the mic. She received numerous requests to sing throughout her life.
Carrie met Wilmer at her brother’s and his sister’s wedding (Ernie and Leona Schmidt). Carrie sang at the wedding and Wilmer was the photographer. Wilmer was accused of taking more pictures of Carrie than the bride! Wilmer strategically navigated through significant competition for her hand before they married in 1955. They lived in Dalmeny for 10 years, Wilmer farming in the summer and driving truck in the winter. Carrie taught piano and during that time they had two children.
Wilmer and Carrie moved to Saskatoon in 1965. Wilmer pursued opportunities in the trucking business and Carrie continued teaching piano. She was an active member of her church, playing piano, singing and leading the Children’s Junior Church for a number of years. Junior Church was filled with music and singing children, it was her passion and her joy.
Later in her life Carrie worked in a jewelry warehouse and was subsequently offered a position at Peoples Jewelers where she remained until retirement. She frequently had the highest sales in SK. She treasured the relationships she developed with the customers.
Carrie’s health declined in 2019. In 2022 she was fortunate to live at Central Haven Special Care Home. She was reacquainted with many friends and made new friends during her time there. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 8.
Carrie is survived by her husband Wilmer, her children Debbie Leniuk (Jason), Sandy Gibson (Bruce) ; 2 grandchildren Amy Gibson (Sean McDonald), Kristan Gibson (Mitch Haver); and 3 great-grandchildren Nora and Archer McDonald, Ellie Haver. She is also survived by her 2 brothers Ed and Wes Schmidt and sister Josie Ens.
A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Grove Community Church, 502 Webster Street, Saskatoon, SK.
Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.

Wilmer and Carrie were mentors to us as a newly married couple living down the street from them. Carrie reassured me many times that my buns would eventually turn out and they have! They truly exemplified the love of Christ by they way they lived their lives.
As a child, Aunt Carrie taught me piano and kept strict standards and high expectations with her music students. When it came to life, she would say, “Behave….. Warren!”, and then smile and laugh because she never knew as a child what I’d be up to next. Last Christmas, she recognized me, and immediately said, “Behave….. Warren!”, and then laughed heartily. I’ll miss you Aunt Carrie and thanks for always looking out for me. Blessings to Uncle Wilmer, Debbie and Jason, Sandy and Bruce and family.
