Celia Doell

February 20, 1936 – September 3, 2023

Our beloved mom Celia Mary Doell (nee Byers) was born on February 20, 1936.  On September 3, 2023, God called Mom to heaven, breaking our hearts while also giving mom peace from her anguish and pain. Heaven’s choir gained another joyous voice as Mom truly loved to sing.

Celia was the 2nd child and oldest daughter. It was her role in life to be a caregiver.  She began life as another mother figure to her many younger siblings, even at the tender age of five she was often their primary caregiver. She continued in that capacity after she married. Celia met Peter Doell in 1953 and they married in 1954, starting a family soon after and having 5 children. Once the kids grew up, grandchildren came along to love, and even great-grandchildren experienced love from our wonderful Mom.  She always had time for her husband and children, no matter what was going wrong in her life or how her day was. Family was priority and Mom showed this love every single day by word and by action.  Mom was love.

Celia was a master gardener. She was an incredible cook. Mom was fascinated with babies and children and read endless stories (grandkids, who remembers ‘Who Are The People In Your Neighborhood’).  Mom also had a particular love for horses. She looked forward to gabbing while out for coffee or a burger.

Mom taught herself to sew and was pretty good with a needle, although she secretly hated sewing! Conversely, she enjoyed needlepoint, which is just a lot of sewing!?  There can be no greater fan of old movies, especially old westerns, than Celia!  Making apple pies and homemade buns were her specialties, they were the absolute hands-down best. Mom liked to bake cookies and nothing lasted long in the freezer as the kids would regularly raid it and eat the contents, leaving the empty containers behind.

Mom endured her share of heartache – yet she never ever complained, not once. She was humble, cringing from any recognition of her contributions. She truly had a servant’s heart, sacrificing her own wishes to help others, and was sincerely happy at their successes and had no expectations of receiving anything back.

Celia was predeceased by her husband Peter; parents Franklin and Freda Byers; parents-in-law Johann and Katharina Doell; daughter Lisa, grandson Murray; several sisters and brothers, and loved in-laws.

Mom is survived by her children Calvin, Chuk (Maggie), Jon (Deb), and Naomi (Brian Kirkness); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren too; sister Vivian Rowles; brothers Ray, David, and John; nieces and nephews; special friend Helen Chernoff; and sisters-in-law Ruby Dyck, Catherine (David) Wootton, Elsa Doell, and Olga Friesen.

Celia decided she did not want a funeral and her children are acting in accordance with her wishes. A private interment will take place later at Schoenweise cemetery north of Warman.

Arrangements entrusted to Dalmeny Funeral Home 306-254-2022.
