Murray ELWOOD Nelson
August 14, 1947 – October 29, 2022
On October 29, 2022, at his home surrounded by family, Murray ELWOOD Nelson (75) was peacefully promoted into his heavenly home. Elwood was born Aug 14th, 1947 in Saskatoon. He grew up on the family farm in Viscount where he went to school and then attended LCBI in Outlook for High School. Elwood loved life- his Faith, Family, Friends, and Occupation. He farmed as a grain and dairy farmer with his parents and later his wife and children. In 1986, he attended The Worldwide College of Auctioneering in Iowa. This led to a career of operating Nelson’s Auction Service for thirty years (1986-2016). He loved auctioneering! He saw it as a privilege to serve the people of Saskatchewan. Elwood loved to visit with people and he truly cared about them. While his body was failing, his mind and memory remained very clear, even to his last day. Elwood had a strong faith of which he passed on to his family. He attended St. John’s Lutheran Church all his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Marian (Holcomb) Nelson, whom he married on June 24, 1967. He is lovingly remembered by his five children, their spouses, his nineteen grandchildren, and his one great granddaughter: Christy (Darren) Reimer, Joshua (Shanyn) great granddaughter Marlee, Jamie, Destiny, and Danielle. Kareen (Neil) Suderman, Mataya, Jaden, Solomon, Josiah. Murray (Donna) Nelson, Holly, Matthew, Beckett, Marshall. Michael (Brenda) Nelson, Reese, Summer, Shepard. Greg (Crystal) Nelson, Liesel, Jorgen, Judah, Malek. He is also survived by his sister Joanne Nelson and brother David Nelson. Elwood passed away much too young. Terry knew Elwood all his life and always thought highly of him. I (Mel) so enjoyed working for Elwood and Marian at Nelson’s Auction and always found them to be very considerate and kind. We have, and always will, remember Elwood with much fondness. Our thoughts and prayers are with Elwood’s family and know that your faith will help you all at this time. Sincerely Mel & Terry Thoen.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. It’s never easy when family member moves on. Remember all the laughs and great times together.
So many good memories of a friendship that goes back to Christopher Lake Bible Camp as teenagers; a friendship that was a gift for all these years. My last visit with Elwood was about a year ago, a visit that I will always treasure. May God’s peace and promises sustain you in the days of healing and may God’s blessings enrich each day as you honour God and care for the holy gift of life you meet in the people you encounter each day. Dan and Bev
We have been so blessed to share grandchildren with Elwood and Marion. They brought their son up to be a good husband and father and we know, from all our contact with them, that Elwood was a good model for Greg. He was a wonderful father-in-law to our daughter; we couldn’t have asked for a better one for her, and we are looking forward to some wonderful fellowship in Heaven someday.
My condolences to you and your family Marian. I was devastated to read this in this mornings paper. And more importantly I was angry with myself. Many many times this summer I was going to call you guys to meet up for coffee, after I realized you were here in the city. I should NEVER have put that off. May you find strength from God through this difficult time and in all the days ahead. May years of good memories and your beautiful family sustain you. And we will get together soon. I promise. Hugs and prayers Marian.
Dear Marian and Family,
We send our love and sympathies to you at this time. We remember Elwood as the kind person that he always was. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Dave and Kathy
We send you our love and prayers at this time. We will always remember our many good times together and the laughter we shared.
We first met Elwood & Marian at a Married For Life course in Saskatoon – what a wonderful couple and an inspiration for married life. Over the years we met more family members, Kareen & Neil, Murray & Donna and got a chance to visit and tour the farm one beautiful Sunday afternoon. I know you’ll be greatly missed Elwood, you made a life long impression on a lot of people, ourselves included. Rest in God’s peace my friend, our thoughts and prayers are with Marion and all of their kids and grandkids.
Our Deepest Sympathy to Marian and family and to all the Nelson and Holcomb families. May treasured memories help to mend your broken hearts.
Our sincere condolences to your family. Ev’s family and the Nelson family go back a long ways. Good neighbors and good friends. May the good memories sustain you in the days to come.

Dear Marian,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I have many fond memories of the many auction sales we attended, regardless of weather. Elwood always made us feel that we were special friends and we appreciated his wonderful personality. I lost my dear Charles January 15 of this year and miss him dearly. We were sad to hear that Elwood passed away. Our thoughts and Prayers are with all the family. Elwood was a gentle caring person. He was strong in his faith and lived his life accordingly. No matter who you were, he was interested in you and your wellbeing. We were not able to attend in person to the celebration of Elwood’s life and legacy, we did however watch it at home. Rest in Peace.
Dear Marian and Family
I am sorry I was unable to join you all in person, but, glad that I was able to connect online. The service was beautiful and I agree that Elwood has left a legacy of faith, fun and family! I rejoice with you that he is now completely healed and whole in his heavenly home and he has his voice back to sing and worship Jesus, his Savior. I pray that you and the whole family will be comforted by the Holy Spirit as you face the days ahead and that the joy of the Lord will be your strength!
Take care and God Bless!
Sorry to read that Elwood past away. It has been quite a while since we had last contact. My thoughts upon
reading of his passing went back to the time when I was in the employ of Elwood and Marian for 5 yrs. on their farm in the 1980s. near St. John’s Lutheran Church. During that time I also met and got to know a lot of relatives and friends of theirs. Visiting was something Elwood truly enjoyed. Our heartfelt sympathy goes
out to Marian, Christy, Karleen, Murray, Michael and Greg and their respective families. Hoping your families strong Christian faith will give you comfort, strength and peace that Elwood is now in the eternal home of our Lord and maker. Take care and God Bless, Hank and Diane
So sorry to hear of Elwood’s passing. I have many memories from our time as neighbours on the farm. Sending condolences to you Marian at this time, and to your family and friends who will miss Elwood.
